Down on the Farm
Oct. 15th, 2011 10:21 pmI went to Bob Evans Farm Fest and in the 30-45 mph winds nearly blew to WV. btw if you look at the link this is literally across the street from my college. They have completely redone it. For one, the leveled the 50 year old restaurant last month and built a bigger one with conference seating (one assumes mostly for the college). They moved the log cabins I was in to a new and very tight location with new fireplaces. wonder if they work... And the tents this time weren't just canopies but rather like tent houses.
There was a problem with that. While it's much better for the exhibitors, it was sucky for foot traffic. Rather than leave the ends open they stuffed exhibitors there so you could not go around the tent. you had to go in and out on each side leading to huge amount of congestion. My favorite soap people weren't there and the cooked-on-an-open-fire beans sold out and they had a day and half to go. Good planning dudes. They expanded the kids stuff. There were new and MORE exhibitors which is impressive given how many are already there. I bought from my usual crew. I got mom another glass trinket and a cast iron hummingbird for out in the garden. I was going to get my SiL a wooden snowman but they left me there unassisted too long and I started seeing the issues with their work. Oops.
I did get my honey and my maple flavored cotton candy (yes yes I'm not supposed to but it's once a year), I did get myself something cool. There's a person there that makes silverware jewelry which is prettier than it sounds. They had some bent int a Cthulu-like shape and I loved them and then I spotted it, a coppery looking one on a horrible leather necklace that wouldn't have fit well around my fat neck. I saw a sterling silver one as just a pendant and took it over and asked if they had the chtulu one in copper by itself. they didn't. It was a one of a kind piece but he took it off the necklace and sold it to me. Whee. It'll be perfect for my steampunk persona (she's not fully invisioned yet but i get the feeling she's a bit tatty in places). I was going to buy a drop spindle with alpaca wool which wasn't that much money but the wool wouldn't have been enough to knit into anything provided I even worked it right. Maybe next time.
It was a nice enough day out but I ignored L's demands for me to come to the play (hey, you know what I go to the ones that interest me and never once has she asked to see MY stories so why should I go to every play) mostly because I wanted to work on my stories. I did get the Soul Eater lady fest done and I've started Fire & Ice and I only need 2K now on Big Bang.
Speaking of which anyone want to edit Soul Eater for me? ELD has it but she doesn't know the fandom. She can do my idiot grammar mistakes though.
And I have to thank
silvrethorn for her historical google fu. She found a cache of Pittsburgh Photos from the Demon Hunter's time period. In fact this would be the very street Temple and Caleb are walking up in A Brief Respite check it out Trivia: one of my best friends in college lived right around here too when she attended Pitt.
And check out this. Ways to Use Social Media to Launch Your Book This is an amazing, intimidating list of ways of using Facebook and twitter especially to help you launch your book. It's well worth book marking
And yes I do love my Royai Halloween icon. I've written a copy stories for it. Would love to see someone else's attempt.

Nothing sleeps like a cat.

Kanda says DONT LOOK. I'm doing EVIL. Yes, ELD, he is sitting on your halloween card

Date: 2011-10-16 02:42 am (UTC)Your Royai Halloween icon is fun. Roy and Riza look mighty fine in their costumes, haha. I totally would write a fic based on that icon, but I'm already writing a Royai Halloween fic in which they're teenagers and looking around a haunted house. XD I might actually let you beta it after I finish it and look through it myself a couple times. Will let you know!
Indeed, nothing sleeps like a cat, LOL.

Date: 2011-10-16 02:49 pm (UTC)The Farm Fest sounds like it would be more fun now... new vendors and stuff. The restaurant being torn down is interesting. Wasn't that the first one?

Date: 2011-10-16 05:20 pm (UTC)It's really only worth it if you or someone you know is into country style. Even the Christmas/Halloween decorations are all country slanted for the most part.
It's my understanding that it wasn't the first one. That's been gone a while and was closer to gallipolis. However, it was a very old one.

Date: 2011-10-17 01:22 pm (UTC)I liked the things you got... may have to try to make a Cthulhu fork. I have some I got at Goodwill - just for craft purposes.

Date: 2011-10-16 06:18 pm (UTC)I'm guessing Bob Evans recovered from the flood all right. The Farm Fest sounds fun, but boo to the no-show soap vendor. My favorite soap-maker has pulled a vanishing act, too, part of the reason I stopped going to the Spring Garden Festival at Kanapaha. That and the insane parking and traffic situation. That won't be an issue at the FAFO art show this weekend, though. We're walking to that one :).

Date: 2011-10-16 06:50 pm (UTC)It did recover from flood and remodeling. It's more fun if you're into country styles which no one i know is.
Oops, that's too bad. I liked that fest at Kanapaha. Hope you enjoy FAFO
