Mom decided she was too tired for midnight so we went later in the morning. Because I must go. Just ask her. We hit Macy's. There were TOUR BUSES dropping off shoppers O_o Mom got what she wanted there. I stood around for 45 min trying to find knee high boots were are now suddenly hot hot hot. I have long narrow feet so naturally almost none came in my size. Of the two that did, one was too wide in the heel and painful and the other hit me right in the varicose vein so that was unacceptible. I did better at Marshall and Half-Price book store so I'm pretty much done with Mom, Brother & SiL and I got dad a Star Trek pizza cutter (on sale!!) and a Bazinga T-Shirt on think Geek and something from National Geographic was on super sale so got that too. He's pretty much done. Now if certain other people would tell me what they want.... I even found the pink dump truck for my friend's little girl.

I had this ring on It was gorgeous. It was actually one sale for 600$ Less than half price. Now if I could only afford my tastes...

I went to see my aunt today, the one who fell over the railing. She's doing okay. I did go see grandma yesterday and she's fine, though she's convinced that Mom made her leave 170$ in a slot machine the last time they went because they had to wait for an attendant and mom had to leave RIGHT NOW. We're still laughing about that one.

This was that dance from DWTS that I wanted people to see. I was poking around NOT writing and found it

Speaking of which, BACK to writing for me.

Snippet of the Day Eetu stopped suddenly and Sverre nearly slammed into his back.

There was no guessing why his friend had stopped short. The room was a roundish pie shaped with three large windows sharing one wall. All the walls, including the spaces between the windows were painted like trees in autumn, multi colored leaves brushing along the blue, cloud spangled ceiling. Rabbits, deer and birds played amongst the trees and underbrush.

“Wow, this is spectacular. Did your mother do this like the cottage in the city?” Sverre asked.

“No, I suppose I should just paint over this.” A sudden and surprising sadness veiled her eyes. “But I love it. Luckily it doesn’t need touching up often. I think it makes him sad.”

“I don’t follow,” Sverre said, sitting on the bed closer to the windows.

“My son painted it but he hasn’t done anything this ambitious in years.” Mrs. Drake turned, looking down the hallway. “It’s a reminder that my son died in the war,” she added softly.

I remember that dance. Everybody in the studio/ballroom was a wet, teary mess after that one.

Pink dump truck is an innn-teresting request. Maybe Friend's Little Girl will grow up to be the next female Ice Road Trucker.

If you're shopping for me at all, the gorgeous Wildwood Tarot can be had for $12.95 or so on eBay and/or Amazon. Just saying.

Boots do not fit long, narrow feet. Every pair I've ever tried has been too loose in the heel. Short of wearing heavy wool socks with the boots, I don't know how to fix this, short of special-ordering the boots from some place that specializes in narrow-width shoes.

yeah they were. It's a tear jerker song and JR being who he is made it more poignant. Watching him has been helpful a lot in writing Sverre.

I'll keep that in mind since I have next to nothing for you anyhow.

No they don't. Sometimes I do wear the heavy socks but it's annoying as hell. High heels were always like that for me too. In flats I can often find narrows. In the haunted house I wore my dr. scholls I had to buy after destroying a pair of work shoes and even though they were medium width I could wear them comfortably with three pairs of heavy thermal socks on. my feet are skies

ETA - Yeah this 2 y.o. girl loves pink and glitter and trucks.so....

That is a very interesting ring. Winry tells me she wants it, because it looks like it has gears in it.

I'm glad to hear about your aunt.

That is a gorgeous ring - I can see how you can be tempted... Must be something in the air - I was looking at this really gorgeous squash blossom necklace (something I've wanted for years and years, and it was a really nice one on sale for about a third of what I would find it for at a powwow)on this website online last night, my finger inches away from reaching for that credit card... O___o

You did Macy's for real - I did Nordstroms online. I got mom a gorgeous purse (really pretty woven leather in soft tan colors) and an Anne Klein watch with a leather band that kind of matches the bag - both for around $100 (the purse originally was twice that.) I felt so good about that, I splurged on the pair of nice shoes (http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/naya-jada-pump/3167509?origin=keywordsearch&resultback=561) I found on sale in my size (I had NO idea Nordstroms had so many great shoes in my size - who knew!?) I rarely spend that much on shoes, but I have realized I have too many health issues now to be able to buy cheap shoes anymore, sadly. Plus, I have wanted that particular style of shoe for ages and not been able to find them in my size and price range (and leather - I HATE pleather shoes!) I also got a pair of new cowboy boots this week. I had to trash all my leather shoes and bags when we moved because they were hopelessly moldy, and am just now getting around to replacing some of the stuff I really hated to lose. I have a pair of the over-the-knee boots ordered - we'll see how well they actually work.... I love the idea (another thing I have wanted for ages and ages, since long before they became fashionable recently.)

it was a temptation for sure. I own a gorgeous double squash blossom so I can understand THAT temptation.

yay for scoring cool stuff for mom and for yourself. That's a cute shoe. The one thing I can not do is buy shoes online. My feet are so narrow and so odd that it's nearly impossible to buy shoes. I would like to get Roaman's knee high boots since that probably wouldn't press on my varicose veins (my calves are not heavy) but they would be way way too wide on my feet. I still take a double A. I used to take a quadruple A until i got heavy.

Yeah when I left Florida and went back to WI (before the OH move) I realized that living there had pretty much ruined a lot of my leather shoes and I had to work and work the cowboy boots to salvage them

The Roamans ones are the ones I have on order-- I had ordered the olive green ones (they are actually kinda gray-ish) when mom didn't show up with them for my birthday like she had said she would. Then she spilled the beans she had ordered a pair - in black - for Christmas. Hope I REALLY like 'em, since it looks like I have two pairs coming... Half the reason I watch pirate movies and Shakespeare plays is for the boots - I'm such a shameless boot-whore. But it is so hard to find them in a 12W plus that will fit my calves. It may get even harder - it looks like now I am kind of half-way between wide-calf and reg.calf boots - my old pair of wide-calf riding-style boots are kind of flopping around on my legs now. I can't win. But I still love them - they were the first really decent pair I ever got.

I REALLY want that squash blossom... I may be in trouble before the weekend is over. Mom gave me a little money from one of dad's insurance checks, and it's the first time EVER I've had money to just blow on myself. Mostly I've been fixing shit around the house and cars, and buying a few clothes that fit me again (finally.)

good luck. I'm an odd podiatrist. I don't really like shoes b ut I do like boots.

sometimes it's good to be able to spend of one's self.

I went straight from all those years as a broke-ass single parent right into being a broke-ass gimp on disability - right when my hubby and I got together, and my daughter came of age and became self-supporting, when I might finally have had a chance to take a deep breath financially for the first time EVER, I got sick and lost my job. So this really is the first time in my whole life I've ever had money to spend on myself that (a.) wasn't on a credit card I had no business using, or (b.) wasn't taking money away from some other vital thing that really should be paid, like a utility bill or insurance or car repair. Discretionary income is a new thing to me. It's been fun for a few weeks, but I think I'm almost done - a couple more things, and then the rest goes in the bank... but just having a small nest egg I can go to now and then if I encounter something I really want - or, even better, if I want to do something for a friend, will be kind of nice. It's tempting to go ahead and buy a new Christmas tree and decorations (another casualty of Casa Hell - that was a real heartbreaker, losing all our decorations) but I'm not sure I can bring myself to shell out that much money for that... Maybe after Christmas when it's all on sale for half-price or less...

Were you a podiatrist, when you were practicing, was that your specialty? I've always meant to ask you about that, and what led you to leave practicing medicine (if it's not to personal - if it is, just tell me to take a flying leap, you won't hurt my feelings!)

I understand completely. I'm a money hoarder. One day I will be grateful of this.

Yes I was a podiatrist and no I don't mind. I talk about it often. in 2000, one of my demented patients kicked me and caught the radial nerve in my wrist, severing it. It partially regrew but I was left with permanent numbness and weakness and chronic pain and podiatry is two-handed all the way. Working was painful and I was unreliable with my strength and precision so I retrained and went into teaching but I'm stuck with medical school loans (I owe over a quarter million so trust me when I say I know what it's like to have no disposable income)

That ring is pretty but out of my price range.

I avoided black Friday although I'm about to head out now for a little bit.

Love the dancing. I assume she's the dancer? Because she knew how to make them both look fantastic.

oh definitely out of my price range, especially when it's NOT 50% off

good luck to you. Mom loves Black Friday. It's like deer hunting for her.

yes, she's the pro. JR Rodriguez was an Iraqi vet who was burnt over 40% of his body during the war and came back as a motivational speaker and actor. I wanted him to win from the get go (even though I don't actually watch this show). He did a pretty amazing job in later dances.I started watching his portion (and then all of it when I was out in the living room with the netbook and what else was there to do). The character in my nano novel was also burned in a war so listening to his backstory and rehab was helpful to me.

I don't watch the show either, but I had heard about him. That is very inspirational.

it is and he was very honest about wanting to die afterward and how he pulled himself together. On the show he seemed like a pretty happy guy, all things considered
