Writerly Ways
Jan. 29th, 2012 12:55 pmI suppose I posted half my writerly ways last night with the music post. Naturally I know have very little in my sinus infected head other than the words 'life sucks.'
So I guess I can expand on that. What inspires me? Music. Obviously. I am not the type who writes easily in silence. My home is almost never silent. If I'm not listening to a tv show while I write I'm listening to music. It's not uncommon for me to come up with mix 'tapes' for my characters. Sometimes it really helps me get into the time period I'm writing.
I also find tons of inspiration in characters, fictional or real. Right now I'm reading Anna Dressed in Blood and if I hadn't already written Killian Kavanaugh in Splinters of Silver and Cold Iron I would be tempted to write him after reading Cas. Edward Elric's brashness and loud mouth were definite inspirations for another character. You get the idea. Also I love the dynamics I see, Scully and Mulder, Howard, Raj, Sheldon & Leonard, these are the things I like to take and see what happens when you put those dynamics in a completely new setting. Sometimes it works well, sometimes it ends up in the 'I'll get back to it later' file folder.
So what inspires you?
This prompt comes from Figment. I thought it was interesting Create a character who has suddenly and unexpectedly attained some sort of power (in the wider perception of the world the level of authority may be small or great, but for this person, the change dramatic). Write about the moment in which your character truly understands the full extent of his or her newfound power for the first time.
And I thought this blog post was very interesting and helpful especially for the authors trying to get more readers to their blog where one assumes they'll be promoting their work. how to increase blog traffic
yearly word count
4151 / 75000 words. 6% done! That's double what I did in the 2 weeks before so yay
FMA Big Bang - over word count, just not done
geek love - progress made. need to get it all into one file
scarred soldier - ditto
Machiavelli Moon - nada
Splinters - ditto
Numb - realized that if I cobble together a couple old prompt bits I have the last chapter half done. So basically once I get a spare moment I should be able to finish this unless I'm missing something in the middle that I totally forgot about.
