My students are driving me crazy.

So science: It was the start of a new tradition tonight, the first annual research scholar award and it went to my friend JM, the biochemistry prof. He deserved it. He does a lot of work and he really deserved the honor. It was a great reception. I was expecting some wine and appetizers but the newish provost wants to improve the moral and the cultural on campus. There was just a fantastic array of food, spinach stuffed portabellas, angels on horseback, filet of beef with horseradish sauce, feta cheese dip, bruschetta, proscuitto wrapped melon, and fruit/poundcake for the chocolate fountain. I got to try one of the winery's wines I've not tried before, the Niagra.

Speaking of Science, today is national physics day. Also anyone know what the zipper on Google is for? Is today the day the zipper was invented. Frankly my students decided it was national blow job day.

Also tonight were the senior recitals for music (didn't go) and the senior art projects which I did go to see just because I wanted to get into the Greer Museum. It has a permanent exhibit I've never seen including a Renoir, a couple Goyas (one sketch sadly foxed), several Andrew Lenaghans and there was supposed to be a Jasper Johns but I must have over looked it. The student art was surprisingly good. The one installation I didn't get but was intrigued by a host of unwashed tea cups under used tea bags on strings. She also did a piece of art that HD and I both wanted. She did buy it. Also saw a couple of my non-major biology students who really struggled in my class and I helped them through and they were so happy to see me. It makes me feel like I AM making a difference to someone.

It looks like the consensus is, I wait on my story and sell it as a stand alone novella. It will harder to make my pay that way but overall, the three people who've seen it seemed to think it missed the point of the open call (I agree) and in some ways, I'm not really sure I like the idea of scars as the focal point of the sexual attraction (so why write this, don't ask).

I have to face facts. Kanda isn't quite the bright bulb I'd like him to be. Today he slipped in the tub and got his tail wet while i was showering. He then spun in circles trying to catch the thing flicking water at him then he crashed headlong into the toilet.

Cool on the new award being presented at your school.

The zipper on Google is because it's the creator's 132nd birthday. If you hover over the image, the alt text usually has some explanation.

Kanda is definitely not the brightest bulb but he's funny.

it was a nice ceremony

Ah, I was close. I think I like the students' explanation better

no, he's a lover, he's pretty but he's not so bright (sort of like a few of my past boyfriends)

Churro is a big ol' klutz, too. He's made some spectacular FAIL jumps, and then get that confused "I meant it to look like that" cat expression. :)

Snortle. I can just see this -- and I suppose it says something terrible about me that it brightened my morning immensely. (Better take that sadism and use it on my characters instead ...)

It amused the hell out of me too.

The mental image of Kanda's escapades made me nearly fall out of my chair from laughing so hard!

One of my former cats, Sylvia was also not the sharpest knife in the drawer either. He was incredibly sweet and impossibly tolerant, but just not all there sometimes. :)

Angels on Horseback??!!

When I am in charge, this will be a standard of all events!!!

Wait, no, I just googled it. What a horribly ill-fitting name. [laugh]

So much better in my imagination. Sometimes I curse Google for allowing me instant access to reality. [laugh]
