Graduation
May. 5th, 2012 03:23 amIt started off badly. Another massive storm rolled in. I lost power last night. We got over four inches of rain but I hadn't realized it was that bad. I got dressed and went out while it was still raining. What I thought was a puddle was Little Rocky Creek over its bank. I stepped into two inches of mud completely covering my feet and my dress sandals. Whee. Branchs and debris everywhere. The sidewalk, courtyard and parking lot are fragged. There's a mud line halfway up my tires and I dragged in a ton of mud when I got in. Thank god, I still have the winter plastic mats down.
It stopped raining and luckily wasn't AS hot as predicted. It was grey through most of graduation but at the end the sun came out and it was a sauna. Gave me a migraine and a sick stomach. I've been like that ever since.
However two very cool things happened at graduation. 1) there is now a cord for veterans/active military, a red white and blue cord. I think that is wonderful. 2) we had a graduate who started in the 1930's!! WWII got in his way and he finally came back to get his degree at age 89 (He'll be 90 in July). He's also a retired minister so they let him speak at the end (and I'm pretty sure he was from Ireland originally judging by that accent).
We had a good speaker, a local boy doing very good. He's started a whole new degree at Rio that is just very exciting, working on software.
We had our traditional party at BB's house. I liked that. My sesame bliss balls went over well. I love her house. I wouldn't mind one like that in Rio. Sigh.
very tired now. being out in the sun does that to me.
ETA - got this from a friend. What could be better? Gorey AND Mozart. (not to mention one of my favorite Gorey works, I got this out of my elementary school library so much they wouldn't let me have it any more AND one of my favorite Mozart pieces)
