Hello from an officially tenured professor
May. 8th, 2012 05:54 pmYay. It's official. I have my tenure. Whirls.
TOday was the last faculty meeting which wasn't actually bad at all, except I felt like hell. If I hadn't wanted to be there for the tenure announcement I wouldn't have gone. Luckily some mint tea helped a lot just in time to go to the contract negotiation meeting. It was supposed to be 30 minutes long. 2 soul-sucking hours later I'm trying to explode heads with my mind.
I was the sent by my chair to secure a table at the white house for our school of science meeting. She liked my idea of doing it over beer and pizza. 2:30 I'm the only person in the bar with my pint of Yeungling black and tan going well it's 5 o'clock somewhere. That was another 2 hour meeting but one well worth having. We've all been tense and I felt like we left on more friendly terms.
Tomorrow I have my MRI on my arm. eep.

Date: 2012-05-09 02:07 am (UTC)yeah that's a problem. I've only been troubled by an MRI once. THis is on my arm/shoulder so I'll be flat on my back. As long as the lumbars don't act up this will be a snooze, sometimes literally

Welcome to the land of tenure, which means only that you almost have job security and you're STILL badly paid :)

Date: 2012-05-09 09:18 am (UTC)BTW, do you have any firmer ideas about dates for your UK trip yet? Definitely a good idea to visit London either before or after the two weeks of the Olympics - the crowds sound like they're going to be pretty crazy during the actual games.

Date: 2012-05-09 05:22 pm (UTC)and no. Had the MRI today, surgeon next week but probably end of june first week in july unless I give up my july semester.
It's looking more like I'll have to fly into Manchester (since the one tour I've found for the stones leaves from there) I'm assuming getting a train from there to London isn't too heinous but thanks for the warning. That was my big fear.

Date: 2012-05-09 01:41 pm (UTC)I definitely like the Pizza and Beer meeting. I wish Anime Syracuse would do that. We had been going to Panera, but someone deemed it, "Too Expensive" and we now go to Wegman's, which is fine... I suppose. They have WiFi and coffee and hot and cold food bars, but really... and the "too expensive" person said that because she brings her 19 and 14 year old children with her. I know you have to feed kids, but could they be fed BEFORE the meeting?
I'm pretty sure we'll go back to Panera, since her netbook's battery is dedder than dead so needs to be plugged in. (Sounds like my poor Laptop. :) It's more like a cute and easily moved desktop.)

Date: 2012-05-09 05:10 pm (UTC)Pizza and beer is always a winner with me. Ugh well yeah I see your point. Panera is expensive for what it is and not that good unless we're talking the bagels and pasteries and I should never be talking either of those. BUt yeah you could bring food for the kids.
