Writerly Ways
May. 13th, 2012 08:40 amWhen you’ve been doing a themed blog long enough, you’re bound to start cyclng material.I know I’ve talked about doing edits and the importance of beta readers before. Indulge me while I do so again because it’s what’s on my mind.
I’m still searching for the magic elixir that will get me editing my older stories. That is what this year is supposed to be about but we’re five months in already (and just how did THAT happen?) What I’ve accomplished coultd fit in a thimble. I might have the best stories ever writeen (okay I don’t but I could) but who will ever know it since I’m sorely lacking in the discipline to get anything edited.
I think one way I could put myself on the right track is to get a schedule set up. I do well with those. Also I would like some outside readers but I can’t pin my hopes on someone else’s time. So I’m proposing a schedule for myself.
Monday – work on Machiavelli Moon (urban fantasy, set in Deadwood, vampiress lead character).
Tuesday - work on Until the Ice Breaks (fantasy, set on an snow-ridden world)
Wednesday - work on Splinters in Silver and Cold Iron (YA werewolf/mystery set in Madison WI)
Thursday - work on Ties that Bind (same verse as Until the ice Breaks, written with
evil_little_dog).
The rest of the time I have time to work on the not yet completed things (okay Until the Ice Breaks isn’t quite completed but I’m on the last chapter and for once in my life it’s ending up SHORT) such as Riding with Strangers (m/m urban fantasy/mystery set in Florida), Kept Tears (m/m urban fantasy novella) Voluntary Nightmare (fantasy world) and Beneath the Torn Sky (steampunk mystery). (and yes I’m capable of working on many things at once.)
If anyone is interested in trading critiques, let me know. I know
cala_jane is waiting on Splinters and
bay115 was reading Riding (though it occurs to me that might have been lost) and if either of you would like to bow out, that’s fine, just let me know.
However, if there was one thing that would get me moving it’s what just turned up in my inbox: the colored version of my novella’s cover. I’m double checking if it’s okay to share it and if so you’ll be seeing it soon!

Date: 2012-05-14 02:02 am (UTC)and ooo, that's good. how much more do you have to do to finish that story?

Date: 2012-05-14 02:10 am (UTC)Well technically I have the story eight chapters and an epilogue, but I might change the epilogue into chapter nine since there's like six/seven scenes in it LOL. Might talk to Beta A about that when she gets around to that last part. Story is finished, but my betas and I had been quite busy at the moment, hence me being slow with polishing Part Two. Hopefully I'll get all the chapters posted soon as I want to get done with editing this story, haha.
