On this day in 1977 Star Wars premiered. It is also on tv right now. This is why I was sad about the button from Think Geek. oh well. I'm a celebrating my geekiness without much enthusiasm as it's already so hot here that I'm into the 'can hardly move except to puke' phase. When I was a kid we always wanted my uncle's pool to be opened for Memorial Day. He obliged and let us turn blue since it was still cool out. This weekend the water will boil...

I got my tens unit today and it is GREAT. It can do inferential (a criss crossing pattern of electricity that breaks down inflammation) straight tens (for pain) and estim (to make the muscle strength). It has a belt clip for wearing around. It's preset for times and can be plugged in or go on battery. I think i love it. Also I get to zap myself with electricity and I kinda like that.

Washed all the curtains (another source of allergens for me) but the realtor got hung up and we didn't meet. I did get a house guide with several other realtors they work with. That was helpful. I've come to two inescapable conclusions a) everything in my price range will need major work (the realtor who was there flat out said it) b) Wellston will get me more house for the money BUT that's only because the town has become less desirable and more crime ridden than Jackson.

for example this house Honestly if this goes on long enough I could probably offer about 40K less and get this house. In Jackson just about 8 miles west this would be 200-300K.

And then there is this house which is at my upper limits and frankly could probably be had for less than asking (i need to look up just where this is). From the outside it's one of the most appealing ranches I've seen but the inside. OMG click and look. this is where Barbie went to die I should be allowed to knock 20K off the price just for all the work i'll have in stripping wall paper.

For those who might like to help me out, stop by [livejournal.com profile] jana_denardo later tonight. I have a question.

Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today!

OMG. And I thought the Lodge suffered from Teh Pink. That's frightening!

I love the other house, though. it's gorgeous.

I need to wash my curtains...and vacuum heavily...and....

Mmmmmmm.

I like the "sunken" tub with the mirrors in that ranch house. You could totally have sex in a tub like that. Too bad it's (hork, hork) teal. And the toilet matches the tub, how special.

It sucks that everything in your price range is either in a slum or is a structurally dysfunctional money pit. But there's got to be something out there somewhere. Keep slogging.

i like the tub too but as mom pointed out there doesn't seem to be a shower head.... yes nothing like the color scheme in this place.

well slum and structurally dysfunctional is this whole region. welcome to Appalachia.

No problem. I'm sure there's a shower head in the Screaming Pink Plaid bathroom I saw in the other picture.

Ocala also runs between $39,000 fixer-uppers in rental-slum neighborhoods and $300,000 houses that people would actually live in. It isn't just Appalachia. Not much in between, either. Palace or dump, take your pick.

probably.

yep that sums it up. Palace or shack, and i can only afford the shack

Update: In the teal bathroom photos, you can see the photographer reflected in the mirror. Her head is blotted out by the flash glare, but she's--big surprise--wearing pink.

Listen...while Barbie may have died in that house...it is STILL a decent sound structure and is in very good looking shape. It's a clean house, good yard, etc etc. So you'd have to do some work, wouldn't have to do it all at once. AND you'd have the room you really really really need!

The other house...I dunno...something about it made me rear back and say "Oh hell no!" and I love those kind of houses!

come on love...go for the good house!

the painted lady is gorgeous, too expensive

i need to find out where barbie house is since that town is pretty bad.

Listen all towns can have good and bad reputations. Just from looking at that house it does not strike me that it would necessarily be in the *bad* part of town. You could be talking yourself out of a very nice place to live!!!

GO! Look at it! FEEL it! At least seriously consider it and get yourself out of that nasty little place you live in.

*clickies*

oooo I love the little 'rock back and forth' egg!

And yay on cutting down on allergens. I have to do that all the time too. To save money and have more variety in my curtains, I use top sheets (sounds trashy, I know, but it doesn't look it when done right). I cut a small hole in the folded over top stitched part of the sheet that acts (perfectly I might add) as a place for the curtain rod to slide in. You can even do little gathers if so inclined.

Carpet is the real problem with allergens. When you get your new house - out with the carpet!

they're a cute fat hatchling.

I've made curtains out of sheets and valences. I'm boring. I hung these curtains 6 years ago and they'll be there til they rot off. I'm not much of a home decorator

oh tell me about it. There was one house i looked at taht was all no-carpet. I'd buy it just for that.

PS on the houses... the first seems like too much house (and too much $). The second... omg... Old Lady Special. It looks like the inside of a trailer :(

for me there isn't too much house. trust me I could fill it. What i couldn't do is HEAT it.

I know. it's terrible pink. I mean it's an attractive ranch from the outside but inside, wtf?

Double ugh. Yeah, that's Baker's Pink, then. *shivers* And what the hell is with all the flower print wallpaper? Looks like the garden department exploded while the paint was wet. It's a nice house, though. Lots of potential... but yeah. Pink overload.

Yay for TENS units.

I still remember seeing Star Wars in 1977 at the theater, then buying a Darth Vader t-shirt soon after.

I was in San Francisco the week before Star Wars premeired. All week, the ads in the paper just showed a (as we learned later) light sabre with nothing else except "Coming Soon". We were bored and the producers/theatre owners were begging people to come to the opening, so we went. Yes, I saw Star Wars the opening night with all the actors and George Lucas.

It was magic, truly.
