My broadband was acting up again, the same thing that it always does. It gets a corrupted something or other. So I call in last night. Halfway thru the conversation after my 1001 time on hold so Amanda could 'check things' I told my mom that this girl didn't know her stuff.

I told the girl more than once I have no idea what you're doing but it's not anything like what the other people had me do in the past. I should have known she was an idiot when her first step was to reboot. then pull the USB card out and reboot again (all of which I did prior to this and had TOLD her so). Then she decided it was a bad USB. No it's not look you've sent me SIX of them and it still does the same thing. CHECK. THE. NOTES!

Finally she has me do something that uninstalls the software for the broadband. Now go online and download the software again.

WTF HOW? You just disabled my internet.

Oh? but the wifi...

WHAT WIFI? THIS IS NOT A LAP TOP. I TOLD YOU THAT!

Oh. I'm sorry. We'll have to send you a disc to upload it. It'll take a week.

I exploded all over her. I said can't I just go to work to get it on my flash drive?

That doesn't work.

Why the fuck not? That's how I put it on my netbook?

oh...really? then that's the problem it was an old system.

NO IT'S NOT. I update all the time. What is your operating number Amanda. She claims there is none and they'll know who it is by name and the notes. I'm going to test that theory.

Long story short Verizon fucked up my internet connection. I knew more than the tech support did. I went to work downloaded the fucking manager and bingo I'm back on line.

Idiots.

I'll be back later with what happened house hunting today. Long story short, the best house I saw was the doublewide.

I gotta admit, I love my Verizon service, (don't have broadband though) however their tech department is a little...useless. Last June I got a droid charge. almost as soon as I got it I was having problems with it. They said, oh, it's a software issue. So, went through factory reset, yada yada yada so I could get a new phone. New phone arrives. The same problems persist. Can't do anything about it because I'm at college. Went to verizon the other day and I was only half way down the list when they said, "oh, a factory reset will work." I was like >.> guys, I've done this before. they shipped me a new phone. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it'll work. if not...*shakes head*

but in other words verizon tech support sucks. we pay them gobs of money for a good service, they need to have competent people working at the support centers.

I hate it when you tell support "I already did that" 5000 times, but they have to read their fucking script IN ORDER, and won't listen to anything you say. Asshats. But do report her. Not that it'll do a damned bit of good.

I had Verizin broadband in Casa Hell, ans it sucked great big fat hairy ones. Ir went out CONSTANTLY - including every single time it rained. I'm not kidding. I was constantly having to reset the modem - after a while I didn't even bother calling their tech support all that often because (a.) It always was horrible, and (b.) I'd been through it so many times I knew everything they were going to tell me to do - it would either work, when it was in a mood to, or it wouldn't. They would eventually - sometimes after making me wait as long as two weeks - come out, and either say "we can't figure it out. We'll send out another tech next week." Or they'd fix it - and it would work - badly - for a few days or so. It really was the bane of my existence. I finally got so tired of it I switched to Cox cable's Internet a month or so before we moved, and that's what we still have. It's not perfect, but it's SO much better than the Verizon was,, and getting our land line phone and net service from them is about the same as what we were paying Verizon for their crap service. (or lack thereof.)

we finally have a new option here and I'm going to take it since it doesn't look likely i'm moving.

But verizon or Hughesnet (from which I've heard nothingbut horror stories from my students) are my only option that aren't dial up.

Yeah one of my other LJ friends has Hughesnet and has nothing but trouble with it -- she lovingly (not) refers to it as "Whoresnet." I think she lives up in your neck of the woods, too - and she was bemoaning the lack of decent alternatives to it.

I wish I had an alternative to Cox.(There isn't one around here, other than DirectTv internet which is outrageously expensive.) Cox net is better than Verizon, but I still don't like them. They are very intrusive in how they get into your computer (my computer repairman was shocked, how much access they had past my firewall) -- and they won't play nice with DirectTv. Because of their policies, I can't use most of the internet-type features that DirectTv offers, since Cox is my ISP - Cox wont unlock something so the two can work together or something. They're just being pissy because they can, basically - trying to force people away from DirectTv to Cox (not gonna happen. Especially not while DTV has football and Cox doesn't, and Mr. hg has breath in his body.) You'd think with the number of people using the internet, there would be more alternatives out there, and they'd be better run. Thank you, SCC and FCC. Job well done.

Do I feel your pain on this!

We have Bell here, and were without internet for 2 days last week--eventually we got DSL back but it was slower than dialup. I insisted they have someone come physically OUT to my house. The guy that came actually ARGUED with the person he was on the line with from Bell, saying things like, "That's not how *I* was trained." !!

Apparently it helps to get the new guy. He replaced a splitter in the box outside our house AND our modem, which was ancient. Now we are back and I swear internet is faster than it's ever been. heh
