Unexpected Drabbles
Jan. 17th, 2005 11:04 amI got busy. It's twenty-eight degrees below zero here so it's not like I'm going anywhere except in front of the computer. You know the drill. Mr Whedon owns the characters. All drabbles pg-13
Angelus - 1800's - Treasure
Angelus had been furious with Darla when she dragged him to England. Didn’t she see how they looked at him when they heard his accent? Like he was a horse apple they had stepped in. Maybe she wanted him to kill them all even if it was dangerous. He hated the restraints of having to keep the body count hidden but he understood the reasoning.
Then he saw her, a dark-haired lissome girl. A lovely creature who could see the future was something rare and unexpected and Angelus knew he had to have her. Darla just smiled when he told her.
Giles S 1 - Youth
It took him by surprise. He had come to Sunnydale expecting Buffy to be a bit of a handful. She was a Wildcard Slayer after all. What Giles hadn’t been prepared for was her total lack of understanding that her calling wasn’t a job she could do when she wanted. He hadn’t expected her to have friends, and such loyal ones at that. He wasn’t ready for her capricious nature or her desire to be a cheerleader. But most unexpected was how much her rebellious nature reminded him of himself at her age and how it made him smile.
Spike S 3 - Heartbreak
Spike hurled his whiskey bottle across the room, listening to the crash of glass. He never dreamed it could happen. Nothing would have prepared him for the horrors. Drusilla was his heart. How could she just leave him and for a slimy disgusting Chaos demon at that? It was unthinkable!
How could his ripe wicked plum even think for a moment he could love a Slayer? He wasn’t a weak idiot like Peaches. He loved only her. The Slayer was nothing. He would prove it to his black rose. He would go to Sunnydale and cut out the Slayer’s heart.
Willow/Tara S 4 - Nature of Love
Love was a tricky thing. Willow would never have believed what her heart was telling her but she couldn’t argue it. She remembered very clearly being upset about the obvious homosexuality of her doppleganger and had told herself that it was the demon. She loved Oz. All the prejudice and unfairness heaped against lesbians would never be her worry. Then came Tara and her heart took that unexpect twist. And it didn’t matter what anyone thought. There was nothing wrong or aberrant about their love. Willow would never apologize for her nature, would never regret her love. Tara was all she needed.
"Look Father. Look at what I can do!"
Holtz glanced around for his son but didn’t see him. Then he looked up and his heart stopped. Steven was doing a hand stand on high ledge of a rock face. "I see you, son. Come down from there."
To his horror, Steven lost his balance, pitching off the cliff. Holtz ran, expecting to see his son splattered on the rocks. He was unprepared for the child to have landed like a cat.
Steven giggled. "That was fun. I’m going to do it again."
Holtz knew this boy would be the death of him.
Angel between S 3/S4 - Davy Jones’ Locker
Why hadn’t he seen it coming? Lorne had warned him after all but it still took him by surprise. The only thing more surprising in his life had been the sight of Darla’s swollen belly. Should have found a way to kill it then, his demon growled inside his head.
Shut up, he told Angelus.
He could see the demon grin. He’s my boy, you know. Look at this punishment he devised. This is pure me.
Angel shut his eyes until Angelus was gone and the dark water returned. How had he missed his son’s rage? He didn’t deserve this.
He never expected he would ever forget her. For a long time there had been just the two of them. It was his job to protect her. She was the most important thing in his life and he had failed her. Gunn knew he would wear that failure like a chain around his neck. He promised he would never forget the way the stake felt plunging into, the way her dust had grimed his face and gotten into his eyes. But, as the years went on, his beautiful sister faded away. He had forgotten her birthday yesterday. Gunn sat down and wept.
Angel during NFA - Civil Disobedience
Angel’s sword arm hesitated as something totally unexpected happened. He danced away from a demon, barely missing getting impaled. Why in the hell did he ever expect his son to listen to him and stay away from this fight? You didn’t, a little voice in his head reminded him. Of course he hadn’t. Connor was Connor, contrary and stubborn.
In a day of unexpected things, like the supernatural strength he had gained from Hamilton’s blood, to the ferocity shown by Spike, Illyria and Gunn, Connor’s disobedience wasn’t a real surprise. It was the fact Connor arrived on dragon back that shocked him.

I do enjoy seeing the reappearance of Evil!Spike. Back when he didn't know if he wanted to kill/kiss The Slayer? He was amazing. (Although, at the same time, I do love Spike's series-long arc. It's a great story about redemption and salvation...)
I also enjoy seeing Angelus. He was such a bastard - and the model for Spike, Penn, and Lawson.
And Connor? Totally, even "good"!Connor - so not gonna obey Dad; he's gonna go and fight as an ally.
