See, Dad's right, I'm pretty sure I've pissed off some deity or another. There was at least 7 inches of drifted snow out there and it took over an hour to shovel it. To say my back and foot hurt is an understatement.

Actually the ankle felt much better once it was in my snow boot(no surprise, plenty of support there) but wiggling it in was painful, getting it back out was worse. I have combat boots I could wear to work but they hurt on a normal day getting them on. I have no prayer of stuffing balloon foot into them.

I did find out that the compression bandage that came with my air cast has a pocket for the ice pack (the nurse put the bandage on so I didn't see that until I took it off last night for a bath). I got the ice pack in it now but it was like trying to get a condom over a limp dick. Sheesh, I'm not about to take it out again. Need to go dig and see if I have an ace bandage. And I'm thinking I might have an anterior lateral collateral ligament tear. It feels like a defecit but it's hard to tell from the swelling (and the bruise extends all the way to the sole of the foot.

Talked to the lawyer today about these 'out of pocket expenses' of his before I sign off on them. He says they're low and mostly just postage and photocopying doctor's files. here's hoping! I'm gonna sign off.

And from Masq...okay so I'm the half crazed dude. Sounds right

Sirius Black is one of my favorite characters. Does that make me reckless, brooding, or just really immature?

Hmmm...sensing a pattern in the characters I tend to be drawn to.

heh I think a lot of people do given the amount of Hermoine and or Harry/Snape stuff I see (never read mind you)

No, now Harry or Hermy/Snape I don't like, it's just his character by itself that interests me.

I dont like shippy HP fic. More importantly Rowling doesn't and has asked for it not to be written

Really? I hadn't heard that she said that. I've never been that interested in shippy Harry Potter fics, to me it's not what the whole thing's about. It's the magic of it that I like. Even in the actual books, I don't like the Harry/Cho ship at all (especially as Rowling portrays Cho as whiny & weepy and Harry as insensitive and it just sounded fake to me).

It's not that I wouldn't read shippy HP, I might if the fic wasn't built around the relationship, but usually the HP fics I like are those that have really good humour in them. Like "Draco Malfoy, The Amazing Bouncing...Rat". I know, silly title, but it had me rotfl!

Yes she has. She's upset about the NC-17 and the slash. She's asked for it to stop. WB HAS sued people then she backed down. I'm not sure why. What really bothers me is the fans that think it's okay to disregard the wishes of the creator. I find that rude and disrespectful. WB is looking to start up the suing again but the thing is, fans have no money for the most part so it's not worth it to them to do it.

Yeah, after all HP is mainly a kids story, writing NC17 fics with it isn't like writing them with Buffy. Cause with the episodes themselves, you've got more than enough to start with. Heck, with Season 5, JW was practically telling fans to get it on with the NC17 fics! And if JK Rowling doesn't like people writing it,then it really isn't fair. I mean, if I had books that were published, I'd be flattered to find fanfics of them but I wouldnt want people to do stuff with the characters that I'd object to. I don't really know why people don't think how they'd feel if they were in the author/creator's shoes.

But anyhow, thanks for telling me about that, I had no idea, I'm not all that up to date on the HP front.

I just am because I came across it by accident. You see a lot of authors don't allow it period. Anne McCaffery used to then put a stop to it back in the days of the paper zines. I was an editor of one of them and I got a letter from a lawyer. I stopped immediately (it wasn't threatening, just a request to please stop that she had changed her mind about allowing this.)

Yeah, I see, like Anne Rice and Laurell K Hamilton. We're lucky our favourite fandom has a creator that actually encourages fanfics!

Yep. I would do so if i were in his shoes. I'm not much of a fan of slash however, simply because to me sexuality is important and changing it changes the character fundamentally. Now I have gay characters, bi, straight, try anything and I would want them to remain true to that. I've seen ugly fights between fans and actors/creators at cons over slash

Yeah, I see what you mean. (though from what I've heard of Season 5 of Angel(i haven't seen it yet) there was a lot of Spike/Angel implied. Was there really? cause that would account for all the Spike/Angel fics floating around. Was just wondering.)

The Slashers will say yes. I'd say no. There's a lot of hostility and an underlying kinship. However, with ONE stupid toss off line, Spike tells Illyria he and Angel had been intimate once. THat pissed me off. If you're going to make them former lovers (and frankly, i could see it. Especially since I assume there were full blown orgies with the fanged four) you do NOT do it in one line at the end of 8 years (well 7 if you include Spike's first appearance) with two shows to go. You give it a proper treatment and don't treat it as a one-off joking line. So I supposed yes it is canon but I'm not likely to ever write it because of my disgust at how it was handled (especially given all the homophobic lines Spike has had over 7 years)

Date: 2005-01-21 10:59 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lejlkwiet.livejournal.com
Yes, goodness only knows what the fanged four used to get up to.

And if the whole thing was based on just one line, I can see why you'd say no. I don't think it's something I'd ever write, but as for reading it.... :)

From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
If I knew the writer I'd probably read Spangel. MAKD just recced a bunch but I've not read any of them. I read slash for friends but I rarely if ever enjoy it because just like a lot of het nc-17 writers it's all about the sex and not about plot. Gay or straight I'd rather read plot over sex. Not that all slashers do nothing but porn since that's not true but it seems to play an integral part for anyone doing hard core shippy stuff (again gay or straight)

As for canon, yep, based on one line and a lot of subtext that people claim is there. I don't see it. I see a lot of resentment, familial strife and a certain kinship. I don't see sexual attraction.

Date: 2005-01-21 11:17 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lejlkwiet.livejournal.com
Yep, with Spike and Angel it's always about who's the one with the power I think. Or at least it's like that in the canon.

And yeah, it does tend to turn out to be PWP alot of the times. Though I had found a couple of very good Fanged Four stories that had a plot good enough to hold my interest all the way through. They had been worth reading.

Date: 2005-01-21 11:27 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
that's why I need to know the author first before I read slash. I trust them to give me more than a homosexual pwp. I'm sure there're tons of excellent slash writers out there but hell I cna't even keep up with ships I love let alone venture into things I'm iffy on.

And yeah, I see Angel/SPike the same way as you. It's always amazing how many interpretations you can get about canon and non canon. The only time I have troubles with it is when someone insists their view is the only right one and then storms off when you don't agree. Sort of like the flamers who read a story just to tell you how much they hate that ship...character...you.

Date: 2005-01-24 05:23 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lejlkwiet.livejournal.com
Yeah, I hate it when people do that. Like the Who is Spike's sire question. To me it's Dru, but I don't mind reading fics where they take it to be Angel. But I hate it when people INSIST on it being him and won't consider anything else.

Yeah I know what you mean

From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
Oh I did forget to mention, I've no problems with Jossverse slashers. He's never said he didn't like it. All he's ever said was any NC-17 makes him a little baffled as to why we'd write it. James Marsters and Seth Green have actively asked people NOT to do that to their characters

Date: 2005-01-21 11:06 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lejlkwiet.livejournal.com
Well, maybe it's weird on my part, but while I'd stick to the author/creator's wishes, I think the actor is a slightly different case, cause he/she weren't the ones to come up with the character in the first place. Ok, they do help to bring them to life but they don't own them,do they? Of course, it's just my opinion.

Date: 2005-01-21 11:31 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
True, and I agree though I do try to pay attention to the actors a bit since they did give the character life. The problem used to be when the fans would ask them to sign their stories and then to have it be slash...

I mean look at the poor Weasley twins (the actors' names are escaping me) actively protesting twin incest. now that's just wrong to write that. It's creepy

Date: 2005-01-22 02:08 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lejlkwiet.livejournal.com
No, shoving it in the actor's face when said actor doesn't want or like slash is most definitely rude and not at all fair to them. And yes, in the case of the twins, it's just icky, especially with the poor guys actually being twins and everything.

Date: 2005-01-22 03:16 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
I'm not sure how much the shoving is done any more since paper zines don't really exist much any more and yeah the twins are a tad put out. While I can understand slash, I don't get incest fic at all.

Me neither. I mean.. I don't even know what to say about it. It's something that wouldn't ever occur to me if it wasnt splashed out across the screen in front of me.
