Tell me how this sounds. I need a short positive statement about Soul for the shelter (which apparently is going to be as hard as a country club to get in). How does this sound? Soul loves to be in the room with you and enjoys sitting next to you. He goes crazy for chasing the laser lights and catnip. He's very curious and loves anything cylindrical. Pens, chapstick, anything that will roll, he'll go after. His favorite toy is the jingle bell balls (or a soft ball) and he loves to play fetch. He demands you throw the ball and will play as long as you're willing. On the flip side, he wants to be an only cat. (I know that's not really positive but I also feel I need to be honest). They want bedding for him (But I don't have any. he peed in the bed and I tossed it. I wonder if i still have that old rug) and a toy.

In cleaning up a pile of papers in the living room I found a story from [livejournal.com profile] winters_queen just lying there. Oh crap. SORRY! I know what it's like waiting for stuff (and I'm the WORST offender for making people wait)

I was in the lab until 7 today. It is creepy to be in the school all by yourself, just saying. i was at work so late i didn't get to go buy a powerball ticket

Tomorrow is their lab finals. I'll be finishing up nano while they weep.

I understand why they want the bedding, so he'll have something that smells like home. And his toy, yes.

It sounds like a good little description of Soul, to me.

I got my Powerball ticket yesterday.

Yeah, I've got various blankets and bedding for the beasties. Including towels.

You're welcome.

We'll see! I hope so, though.

Well, Rogue is pretty much of the idea that she needs to sleep against me, no matter what. Pewter, though, sleeps on the floor.

You should remember that Rogue used to either sleep under the wheels of the roll-y chair in the library, or behind me, in same chair.

Do you have an old towel or something you could slather around hs favorite spots around the house, to gather up familiar smells, and send along with him? I usually do that when I have to take teh kittehs in the carrier for a long drive, just so it won't feel/smell so foreign. I think your description sounds fine - you've given lots of good positives about him, but people do need to know very clearly he needs to be in a one-cat home, you could even add that he needs a lot of individual attention, or would be perfect for someone retired, home most of the time. Having been through a mismatched pet adoption myself this year, I can tell you from my perspective I'd rather have too much information than too little, even if some of it is negative. Lots of people who adopt rescues are willing and able to deal with animals with idiosyncratic animals, but it's a matter of having the information to make a good match - so I don't think you need to worry about saying too much, the more you can say, the better, even if its not all rosy. I respect you for making this difficult decision, I know it's a tough one.

I know what you mean about being at work alone - I was often first in and/or last out of the library, and sometimes ended up staying long after everyone else if certain things were going on. It was always rather creepy, it was so big, and so many huge walls of windows - I felt like I was stuck in a giant fish tank at night by myself, and I got pretty jumpy sometimes - especially if I was there working with the money.

Good luck finishing up your Nano!

i can find an old towel. I think/hope that telling them the negatives will be in person. And if not it WILL be in person since I will make a point of it. It's a very very hard decision. i feel horrible.

yeah and you never know who could get in there since the school often isn't locked.

Thanks. i've done diddly so far

You shouldn't beat yourself up about it, really. You've tried and tried with Soul - most people would have just turned him into a shelter without a second thought, or worse, long ago. You've bent over backwards for ages trying to make things better for him. It's just someone else's turn to try now - which is you being unselfish and doing what's best for him. But I know it's hard, believe me, I felt the same when I had to give back that doxie pup this summer, it nearly broke my heart. But please keep telling yourself, you have nothing to feel bad about, it really is the best thing for Soul, and if there is anything else you could possibly have tried to make things work, I sure as hell can't think what it might be. The worst part is making the decision and getting it done, but I suspect once it's done you'll find you feel a little - or maybe even a lot - better about it. I hope so.

I have to write these a lot:

Soul is an inquisitive young boy who loves, loves, loves to play with his toys. Soul is happy to chase his jingle ball or laser toy for as long as you're willing to play, and will then happily sit with you on the couch to unwind. While Soul loves the company of his humans, he does not enjoy the company of other felines and would do best in a single pet home. If you are looking for a sweet little soul to light up your life, please give this Soul a chance!

I know our local shelters use some variation on "X must be an only cat/dog" a lot - I don't think it's seen as negative, just factual.

I agree. It would be horrible for me to give Soul up only to have him go to another multicat home and him do the same thing and those people won't be as attached that fast and he could end up someplace bad.

I think your description was a good one. Lots of people only want one pet, so that isn't neccessarily a negative.

I agree but what WOULD be a negative is not knowing that detail and he starts middening in their house

I'm sorry I missed this. That description sounds fine. Many people (like me) are fine with an only cat.
