Writerly Ways
Dec. 2nd, 2012 01:40 pmJust a quick writerly ways but I DO want your opinions on something.
We all know I finish nanowrimo and many snippets are up on the locked filter if anyone is interested.
I wanted to share this with everyone - Dreanspinner Press Open calls These are the open call anthologies for Dreamspinner (who had a ton of Rainbow award winners this weekend which is a fairly large gay literature award)
I am very interested in only one, the steampunk one (yes I know I still own
winters_queen a het steampunk that is started but not finished because I suck). I am curiously what would YOU guys like to see in a steampunk story (keeping in mind that yes, this must at least include m/m romance). I would probably prefer to write a mystery sort maybe (those are hard to do in 12K or less).
Or how about this, what would you NOT like to see in a steampunk story. What's been overdone in your opinion. I'm curious. I know I want to do this.I'm curious as to what people would like to see.
And here's my yearly word count. I set it at 150K originally. Then put it at 175K. I've upped it one last time to 210,000
202373 / 210000 words. 96% done!

Date: 2012-12-02 11:28 pm (UTC)Huh, maybe I'll give it another go for the open call for the steampunk one. Even though I told myself I would take a break from it and work on more traditional fantasy, UF or sci-fi.

Date: 2012-12-03 05:53 am (UTC)As for what I want from steampunk -- you know, I think the thing I want most is more steampunk that's not Victorian/Georgian England. Steampunk that's set in different countries and different eras. Because really, I like the idea of steampunk a lot, and I love its gears/steam/dirigible trappings, but that particular era bores me senseless and feels tremendously overdone. So I'm always on the lookout for steampunk that is a little bit different.

Date: 2012-12-03 05:26 pm (UTC)they've already told me that my story is in the Hudson Valley and that his money comes from the family business in timber and furs and he uses that to be a mad inventor while his younger brother mans the business. Now if I had more time I could get started (but I don't want to lose momentum on the nano. I must get that done)

I'm great at letting my nano's go to the wayside after Nov. I will not do that this time
