writerly Ways and a little more

I had to run to Athens today to get the raw materials for my second research project on herbal antibiotics so I went to the Farmacy to get bulk herbs. Very glad I didn't get tagged for speeding. I can just see this conversation now. "Ma'am, why do you have all those baggies of green stuff in your trunk?" Especially since I had to go thru Meigs county and it's known for just one thing (world wide, I might add) Meigs County Gold (I.e. pot).

Somehow this took all day. Well I couldn't get there until noon since it didn't open til then, and since it involved 2 hours of drive time there and back, I made sure to get lunch at my favorite restaurant (Chinese) and to go shopping at the big Kroger's. Don't know why that took all day but it did.

I TRIED to think of something intelligent to do for my Writerly Ways since it's been weeks since I've done anything really. 2 hours in the car and all I got was how Reko and Nine argue over their first sexual encounter. Thanks brain.

So revision. That's what's been on my brain lately. Mostly because I NEED to do it. I've been failing to do it and I have to keep reminding myself, I can NOT be published if I never revise anything. (or finish it but that's another issue). I've put in about half of the edits mamculuna has sent me and the two chapters evil_little_dog has sent. I've finally gone back through the whole novel myself. I still have the edits zippitgood sent for a different novel sitting on a shelf.

I find revision tedious. I need to find better ways of coping with it. Maybe set a time aside and treat it like the job it is. Something. Because what I'm doing now just isn't working. How do you all handle it?

When I did revisions for my longer works I set some time aside for that and focus on making the corrections. Playing some music helps to calm my mind from thinking "oh gawds how am I going to be able to make those changes!" Don't like editing myself (especially with Chasing the Desert because my betas suggested so many corrections, haha), but I always tell myself my stories won't be better unless I make those changes.

It depends on what I'm working on as to how I feel about revisions, I guess.

I never seem to feel good with them even though I'm happy with the results afterwards

I do try all of that myself.

Part of my current irritation is that I had to put it all aside to do the big bang and now I feel like I've let myself down

I normaly do it as a task with a reward at the end. So for each block of time I edit, I get to do something fun for a bit at the end. When I am all done, I give myself a gift. Last time I got myself a spiffy hyena plushy.

While I am doing it revision takes all of my energy until I am done, with three jobs I don't get much down time. So no new gets done until the old is fixed.

I try to make the gifts relate to what I am working on - when I was working on my hyena shapeshifters I found the hyena plushy (they are really hard to find)

I haven't written anything in that universe is a while - but they are a lot of fun. It is a hockey team that is all hyena shifters, so they are all ruled by The Wives. I picked them becuse they are female dommininat and I kinda like that about them.

In school I slept for a few hours in the afternoon and then a few at night.

Yeah. I may have to write something in that set again soon. They always brighten my days. We all need a few Chericters like that.

I was an AG student, so I started classes... 8am or before that. And my classes were an hour away by bus. But other than Tuse and Wednesday I was done at noon. All my freinds started class at 1pm and had class until supper. It gave me this nice eat lunch/do homework/sleep time in the afternoon.

Ah. I was the one with 21-23 credit hours a day so I went all day every day

I carryed 21 credits but that still gave me a gap in the afternoon. I think I had 2 night classes though.

My job was on Wednesday (I remember because we would go out after) and the only extra-cariculars I did were politics.
