In case you haven't seen this yet:

In all honesty, I'd rent it. I like a lot of the actors in this (I think Nathan Fillion is one of the most adorable geeks ever) but I'm not fond of modernizations of Shakespeare, don't ask me why. I still want to see the Patrick Stewart/David Tennant one.

Speaking of Nathan How can they take what most of us wanted: Kate/Richard and turn it into such banal crap? I'm still trying to figure out why the writers think that their relationship would be treated as if Castle were a cop. Sigh. Boring. The show feels played out

Speaking of getting played out I love this show but this year has been more painful than funny. ANd I'm SOOOO disappointed that the girl Raj picked up in the comic book store ALSO turns out to hate comics. It's very disappointing to see the gender bias continued

This week marks the 9th anniversary of my mom's sister's death due to alcoholism. Her daughter was talking to Mom and just learned that Aunt L dated Bobby Vinton (a crooner in the 50's for everyone who wouldn't know him which is about all of us). Mom doesn't know how long they dated just that they did.

Hey I DID join Camp Nano. I'm Doc Dana there.

Also I'm thinking of starting a new YA gay urban fantasy story. Anyone want to be a first reader?

And a new feature of the blog, people messing up more than us. Stuck on Stupid

I would rent Much to Ado About nothing too for Nathan and Alexis but this reminds me too much of the Romeo & Juliet with Leonardo.

...I know about Bobby Vinton. >.>;

Much Ado could be interesting. Though I'm sure I'd probably be thinking that Wesley and Fred playing Shakespeare is kind of unusual.

I saw that article and snorfled.

Thanks for the Whedon link (says this mad Buffy fan)

Bobby Vinton sang very nicely. Blue Velvet is a sad song, but the lyrics are quite lovely. I love his "I love how you love me."

I wouldn't watch that movie, but I can't help but wonder how pissed off James Marsters is that he burned his bridges with Whedon, and didn't get cast in that movie. He thinks of himself as a great Shakespearean actor. LOL

I, of course, because I'm ancient, know of and was/am a fan of Bobby Vinton. :-)

I couldn't stand that movie LOL. If you're going to do a modern day Shakespeare why do it with the language of that time instead a more current adaptation.

see I hate that even more. I want the language of Shakespeare

snort, did he? I pay no attention to actors but you're right about his opinion of himself

Ha, this doesn't surprise me.

Though I wouldn't be able to tell you anything he sang off the top of my head (despite your youtube link).

Yeah...even though they're actors playing different roles.

OH MY GOD I WANT TO SEE MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING SO BAD.

I mean. I knew I did. Because, Much Ado About Nothing. And Alexis Denisof. And Amy Acker. And all the rest of them.

I'm just going to lie down now.

I'm a big Whedon fan. But I'm a much bigger Shakespeare fan. *swoon*

The comparisons between him and Branagh are kind of hilarious, too.

Yeah, I don't know exactly what happened, but I understand there was a dust-up, probably because of egos colliding. LOL

ohh thanks for this, been looking forward to it.

Couldn't agree more about TBBT and Fillian, he seems to be phoning it in, he's always done better work with Whedon

totally know about Bobby Vinton, I hope you have lots of good memories of your aunt..

Yeah I mean it was good last year but this year I think something is off in general. He's tweeting less, his work on Castle is weak hmmm

Indeed i do

I've missed the comparisons. drat.

Well, just that he's a big nerd icon who's secretly a big Shakespeare buff, and Branagh's a big Shakespeare icon who's secretly a big comic book buff. And then they both worked on the Marvel Cinematic U (Branagh on Thor, and Whedon on the Avengers, obviously).

And now Whedon's doing MAAN, which Branagh did a pretty seminal version of (with Emma Thompson *happy sigh*).

Ah I see. I didn't not know that of Branagh but I suppose I'm not that surprised (and missed that Branagh had anything to do with Thor)

Branagh's "Much Ado" is brilliant, despite the sore thumb appearance of Keanu Reeves as Don John (he quite clearly doesn't understand the dialogue he's speaking, he just learned the words in the correct order -- they had to cut most of his monologues). Michael Keaton's Dogsbody is one of the funniest interpretations of one of Shakespeare's rustics I've ever seen.

And despite loving Branagh's version so very much, I'm sure I'll enjoy this -- I don't mind the setting as long as the language is there.

I agree on all counts about Much Ado

I definitely want the language there but the modern settings just bother me (oddly one of the best I saw was at the Pittsburgh Shakespeare fest where slowly but surely the modern dress was replaced with period garb until the final act)

The first Shakespeare production I was ever in was set in the "Future" (our director was a Star Wars geek) -- with space ships and ray guns and all.

Shakespeare is all periods, not just trapped in the Elizabethan era.
