She called at nearly 6 to say she was heading home to get dad and go to the hospital. FINALLY she listened to me and him (and not something she thinks the doctor said) I've been telling her that she probably has pneumonia. THe urgent care doctor thought so too and wanted her to go for an emergency CT scan and blood work. Three hours later I have yet to hear from them. I've been telling her to go do this for over a week but again, what does her daughter the doctor know?

This tops off a day filled with mean people, slackers and students who honestly think we're just going to pass them no matter what they do. I want to know WHERE this idea comes from? It's not just one person. It's not just HERE. It's widespread. My god, the things they think they'll get away with.

And for the random kindness take a look a Social media doing something right This young man posted his suicide plans (on his 13th birthday) and luckily it was reported and his mother got him help and sent out a plea for letters to show him he's not alone. He's still getting thousands of them.

I had to practically threaten my dad that I was going to physically drag him to the er once before he went to his doctor when he'd had a hacking cough for over a week. Turns out he had - wait for it - walking pneumonia. Parents!

And kids think they'll get passed no matter what because that's what happens all the way through till they get to college and face reality. There is no participation trophy in higher education. At least I would hope there isn't.

Hope your mom gets better - it's never fun having sick parents, even when you don't live with them.

As for the students... I don't know about other states, but here in GA if a student is held back twice? The teachers *have* to pass them after that no matter what grade they've earned. So that the student isn't "psychologically traumatized by being in class with a younger peer group".

My personal thoughts on the matter? Hold the idiots back as many times as needed. Eventually the student'll get tired of being the oldest one in the class and start putting in some effort (or it'll be a major clue to the administration that there's a learning disability going on that needs attention).

thanks. she's back home now

Yeah there are policies around here that are the same or the parents get 'fined' and the student has to do things to help improve their grade but not actually homework related often

thanks. she's home with antibiotics and much annoyance. Apparently the entire region is dying and they were all in the ER at once (literally, the hospital had no open beds)

I hear ya. The phlebotomists at my work are VERY entitled, or so they think. It's sickening. I'm going to have to say that these types have always been given everything they wanted or attained everything easily (*Cough*nochildleftbehind*Cough*). Working for something just isn't something they know how to do because they have never done it.

that seems to be the consensus of faculty with more experience than me. It's one of those good ideas that went horribly wrong. And you're right they are totally clueless and the work force is already recoiling in horror fom them and there is no way to not deal with them

Sigh. Moms. I remember when mine told me six months later that she had fainted in a supermarket from pneumonia. And never called. AAARGH!
