To all my friends who celebrate it!

I was going to share my grandma's Pascal bread but I can't find either recipe. Go figure. So here, have some virtual Pascal bread.

The granny who is still alive made this version. It comes complete with a dime hidden inside (because nothing says fun like hidden object food games) and whoever gets the dime is supposed to have good luck all year. I never got the dime. The other granny made a cheese bread that I actually preferred to the sweet version but with the price of Parmesan these days it's a pricy bread to bake.

happy easter to you too, pix are lovely....Just finished long italian easter breakfast which segues into lunch, at least here in Rome, and we had several of the various regional easter breads.(one looked just like gran's!).luckily one of the bakeries near my house specializes in regional and older traditional baking and they have versions from all over Italy .. we had a cheese one from Umbria, a cheese, salami and egg one from down by Naples, and two sweeter ones with anice, and cinnaman and other stuff from Lazio and Abruzzo..For some reason, they seem to call many of them pizza (Pizza Pasquale di Civitavecchia...) although they look like cakes or bread. And then for dessert, la Colomba (yellow sweet cake baked in a dove shape..)

mostly its a special pan, although I've seen some people get pretty creative when they are trying to chic it up a bit

I don't know how to insert images in a comment, but here's a link to a photo of the classic colomba...
