cornerofmadness: (izumi stupid)

I'm working up to a big announcement there. And I'm hoping to do something a little different with Soldiers of the Sun (which is nearing its conclusion) and Kaleo's story (which is just beginning) i.e. NOT waiting until I'm ready to send it out to give it to a beta reader then pace around anxiously. If anyone would like to read either story chapter at a time, let me know (as we can work out something in return). Thanks again to [livejournal.com profile] evil_little_dog, [livejournal.com profile] mamculuna and [livejournal.com profile] havocmangawip for generous donating time and effort to get Kept Tears ready

I spent the whole day working on exams. I'm brain dead. I started the day that way. I hate heat. It's not even THAT hot and I'm already not sleeping and then over sleeping at inappropriate times. I loathe this. I couldn't get out of bed today which tells me all I need to know. I didn't sleep well even when I was out.

So this in tonight: My 97 year old Grandmother's reason for not liking her new assisted living home, 'There's not enough men.' Oh geez....that's because they're all DEAD. Also everyone there is just too old for her. Um.....

Other than that the Black Dog came to sit with me this afternoon. I hate when that happens. I think a lot of it is PMS. Hormones make you crazy.

Well that and the relentless grind of my student loans making my salary unlivable. The good news is only 3 more car payments. that'll help.

I changed out my shower curtain finally (only bought it back in march...) I'm in so much pain now. Some days I really have to wonder about my ability to buy a house. then again I swear my best bet here is to buy land, toss up a double wide. They usually last well for 20 years. By then i'll be ready for senior housing...

Mom and I are going to Vegas soon. She told Dad tonight. Naturally he's not happy (he doesn't want to go and so neither should she). I'm looking at Harrah's or The Quad for a hotel as Mirage is too $$$ and I don't want to walk the whole strip. Anyone know anything about either??

Good luck on your trip to Vegas.

Yeah, and listening to my horror stories about this place probably make you want to think twice, too. I don't even tell you all of it.

Give the Black Dog a cookie and a stick to fetch.

Yeah, trying to figure out what to do first regarding the house is kind of daunting.

Black Dog + Giant Hair Ball. Hmmm.

The Quad used to be Imperial Palace. The rooms are pretty nice, and every one has a balcony, which is rare and nice in Vegas.

I've never stayed at Harrah's.

I'm interested in Kaleo's story.

I stayed at the Imperial Palace back in Christmas 2005. Didn't know the name changed, lol.

yeah it's the quad now. how uninspiring.

Yeah, it's pretty recent -- when we were there in February some of the signs still hadn't changed (the big neon one up on the building) and the interior is still Asian -- don't know what else they're going to change, but the main name had changed.

Kind of a shame, really.

I agree. And if they had to change, couldn't they have found something more exciting than 'the quad?' to me that's something on a college campus

Yeah Mom found that out. What a bummer of a new name. That's good to know since I believe that's directly across from the Mirage. (I don't mind walking a block from the con but I don't want to wander down from the end of the strip I'm more familiar with i.e. Luxor/Excalibur/mandalay bay)

Mom has. It's all right. Her sister used to get comped there all the time.

Oh cool. Once finals are over maybe I can send along ch 1. I'm sure you have something I could look at in return.

It was kind of a surprise, especially since the big, blue "I P" was still up on the towers.

It is directly across the street from the Mirage (or really, Caesars Forums, but same dif).

I'll be there again in June; we're staying at Mandalay Bay this time. We've stayed at nearly every single MGM/Mirage property on the Strip (including TI when it WAS an MGM property) -- so no Harrah's. But we've been in there many times, since it's the way to the monorail.

Sure. Maybe you can find the Sean Patrick novella again; I don't know if you ever finished it.

geez. yeah that's what I thought though looking at the map.

You'll probably be there a week after me. Of course, we might move hotels halfway through depending on price. we'll see. I might go to the grand canyon too.

hmmm what was the file name. Is this the cruise ship one? I could look for it. I'm pretty sure I finished reading it but i'm not at all sure I sent you thoughts on it.

I totally feel ya on the hormones... I like to joke that men don't open doors for us out of courtesy as much as they just don't want to turn their backs to us ;)

and new trailer homes can last quite a bit over 20 yrs. the one across the street from us is still in great shape and is already 20 yrs old - plus, it has survived 2 major hurricanes (Rita and Ike). I'm just not sure how good of a shelter it would be for you in tornado alley... you'd have to be sure to have a storm shelter of some kind nearby, because tornados don't give the notice hurricanes do

now that's funny

yeah the one my uncle has at the lake is very nice actually. I AM considering the possibility of a modular home which are very sturdy. I just think their cost, the cost of the land and everything needed to get the land ready for habitation will out of my range

I really like several of the houses you have shown us - I'd still do a built home if possible (I have been really surprised at how equal to or less than mortgages are to rent - and it's a buyer's market right now)

less trouble with something new after all

not here. they still think it's 2007 in far too many places.

I stayed in the New York 14 years ago... not sure it's much help. But we really, really liked it.

My own grandmother (now passed, and not insulting me anymore) made stripper jokes all the time. Wouldn't surprise me if she had tried to petition to get them on as a home activity. Suggest it to your gran, maybe. :)

that's one I haven't strolled thru yet. I believe, however it's on the wrong end of the strip.I have too many buses leaving before 7 Am and too much to carry to want to wander far.

oh geez, let's not give the old biddy idea
