fanfic_bakeoff. New anime for me (about halfway in). Not sure I’ll be writing much for it but it had a few things it wished to say.
He shouldn’t have let her do it, but there was nothing Kogami could have done. Senguji’s shotgun had riddled him with bullets. Kogami knew he was lucky to be alive, as alive as an Enforcer could be at any rate. He couldn’t even get up out of his hospital bed yet. He didn’t understand why no one else had tried to stop Akane. Granted, there might not have been any way of doing so. He expected at least Ginoza to try and talk her out of the memory scoop.
Both he and Ginoza knew full well the dangers of such a thing. Putting Akane through the memories of watching her friend die again could raise her crime coefficient to a point where she’d suffer his own fate, being turned into an Enforcer. It wouldn’t just be a waste of a promising young inspector; it would rob a tender-hearted lady of any semblance of a normal future. Like him, she’d be locked into the darkness. The case had destroyed his life and all he could do to keep it from ruining Akane’s was to lie flat on his back in the hospital; he hated being helpless.
But what surprised Kogami the most was the fact that he was actually worried about someone. It had been awhile. Of course, it was his emotional involvement that had doomed him to the life of an enforcer. Still, it felt good to realize he was still a human being after all. Kogami just wished he could be certain Akane would come through the process with her hue unclouded.
