cornerofmadness: Angel in drag holding up cards (death by books)

Which is all I have to talk about since I swear to God, I woke up, went grocery shopping with mom and suddenly it was 7 pm...I accomplished nothing at all.

Day two in Vegas could have been a tad more exciting, but at least the time zone thing is working for me. I was up at freaking 5 o'clock because my body is convinced it's 8 AM. I get things ready because Mom and I are moving over to Harrah's for the rest of the trip. I slept liked hell so I wearily stumble down the block to the Mirage. I got my first writing tidbit right away. As I crossed the street, the wind started rolling a used condom toward me. Gotta use that somewhere. Beer bottles were in the mirage's pool. Gack.

Breakfast was good. The first lecture was much more useful to med school anatomist and the majority of these profs are community college. The second I was very interested in, a POGIL lecture. Got some writing down, smoozed sales reps, snagged every freebie I could get my sticky little fingers one (the best so far are a deck of cards with anatomy art and a femur stress 'ball.') I also got some stuff that helps to promote HAPS's scholarship programs, a cool T-shirt and skull earrings.

I met Mom for lunch. I said let's go look at where the bell cap is in Harrah's to drag over all our stuff over there because Harrah's check in is so damn late (after 4). I decided we should try to check in any how. They might do it early and they did and we opted for the 15$ up grade. It's a nice hotel room, smaller than the Quad's but proving bigger isn't always better. We did have lunch at the Quad in Ginseng 3. I had a very good beef bento (probably just a few dollars more than any Asian restaurant.)

The afternoon of my seminar was less exciting. It wasn't that the speaker was bad. I was really interested in her research looking into the torpor-arousal issues that hibernators go into and trying to find ways to translate it to minimize reperfusion injury. But that lack of sleep caught up to me. I could barely keep awake. I did skip the last speaker, which sucked since it would have been interesting (gut health), but I couldn't concentrate.

I came back to the hotel and laid down, noticed the toilet was leaking. When mom came back, we hit the floor and I tripled my money (relax, tripling 20$ ain't that much). We opted for Harrah's buffet. Nothing like mixing greed and gluttony. Being a special holiday buffet meant lots of seafood. I did manage to eat an oyster but had too much raw horseradish on it and about burnt out my poor gut. The cold crab legs were delicious. Afterwards I showed Mom the Mirage so she can meet me tomorrow. We played a little there and doubled our money.

Lost it back to my original input at Harrah's, got the toilet fixed, learned the tub lets out so much shower water you can do the backstroke in it. As I'm typing this, I heard this noise. Mom made me go look. 'It better not be that damn Mirage Volcano.' It was. It was pretty cool, shooting fire everywhere but it does make an ungodly racket.

No pictures today. I didn’t even unpack the camera.

Adopt one today!

Since I've only seen the Mirage Volcano from the street and from the walkways of Venice, I never knew you could actually hear it INSIDE. You sure can't inside the Mirage!

Wow, beer bottles in the Mirage pool??? All the times I've been there, never seen that. Must have been a really crazy time.

Shame we didn't know about your layover in Phoenix. We could have come over and had lunch. :)

you can hear it. It scared the hell out of mom and her sister when they stayed there soon after 9/11 and didn't know about the volcano.

Seriously, it was one helluva saturday night. After that Vegas didn't look too trashed. In fact, surprisingly so given the sheer amount of people there.

Yeah, I thought about tell you guys but it was less than an hour and a half so I figured it was pushing it.

Yeah, it always looks like that. Even when it's "not busy" (by Vegas standards) there are a million people.

I don't know what the deal is with the short-short skirts. They wear 'em like that at New York New York, too.

Well, then, A rolling condom and beer bottles.

Sounds like Daytona on any given day.

Glad the speeches you attended were interesting, at least.

Or the park where I walk the dogs here. Found one yesterday. That's the second one I've found on the street. Ewwwww.

Those wax dummies were fascinating.
