houses, Vegas and pictures
Jun. 6th, 2013 10:30 pmSince it was raining all day I didn't do much but look at some houses and found two really good possibilities. I need to contact HR and find out how much more I'll be making to see if I can afford this much or not. (which yes I know isn't really that much as far as housing goes but when you have my student loans it's like you make 20K a year)
the Tardis house It's bigger on the inside. Seriously. Check out the photos. It's not a very striking house, I'll grant you that but at least it's not a double wide? I love the porch and hate that style of ceiling in the bedrooms. sigh. It's so popular here.
a lot of house for the money And I'm betting it needs work since there are no interior photos yet. If nothing else I'd have to plan (i.e. I already have) how to kill that Ivy and get it out of the siding. I could see me in this place freezing when I can't afford to heat it. Both are @ 35 miles from work.
Hillbilly Cove (i.e. Lake Berlin)
My House. We've been joking about it for years (it's been nearly 20 years since Lucky Uncle got the lake house.) We always went passed this abandoned house. Several years ago, I tied aquatic shoes around my neck, dived off the boat and swam over there so i could climb up in the thing (before it was half off the cliff). Not much to see. Too bad I didn't have an underwater camera then. Also i got minnows in my swimsuit for my efforts.
close up, notice part of it is now over the cliff from those flooding rains 2 years ago
going to hang this up as inspiration to lose weight, my god...
the domestic duck and her wild boyfriend
Since Mom is with me, I made a choice to not go to the last day of my conference so we would have 2 days to do things. We walked part of the strip for most of the day. I've never been to Paris so we went there via the Flamingo, which was another I've not been to. We walked around the bird garden. They have brown pelicans (too injured by boats to return to the wild), a black necked swan and a black swan. Lots of pretty koi, too.
I liked Paris. It was very pretty. I bought myself a souvenir there, a ceramic mug that looks like the hot air balloon. We debated going up the Eiffel tower, but decided it would be better at night. We trundled back down to our hotel. On the way we saw Chewbacca, Bumblee (Transformers) and Iron Man posing. Had to be hotter than Hades. Mom and I agree that neither of us like this miserable heat. First person to say 'but it's a dry heat' is going to need a general surgeon to remove my foot from their butt.
After dropping off the crap, we headed for Siegfried and Roi's Secret Gardens and dolphin habitat. The dolphins were so fun. I hopefully got some good video. They were so cute. They kept messing with a ring tossed in the water and they followed the trainer around the pool like puppies. While I was watching them, I got blowhole water in my eye… We lucked out, the white tigers were awake, well one was and she was spraying her territory (we were warned to get back 20 feet so not to get it,) She went into the water and I hope the video will come out and the pictures since there's the chicken wire fencing (and dummy me forgot to bring the reader). She also rolled on her back and kicked the air like a house cat. The rest of the big cats were all sleeping. I got cool gifts in the shop.
We came back to the hotel and Mom finally listened to me and called Treasure Island for tickets to Mystere (Cirque du Soleil) The one we wanted was already sold out (told you so, Mom) and it was dark Thursday /Friday. We got tickets for 930 and my god they are so freaking expensive. Dinner was at Kahunaville, a yummy stir fry and a melon mojito. Mom wanted to see the Sirens of Treasure Island. I told her it sucked, but we had time to kill. It was worse than I thought it would be. Very sexist. I could handle the fact it was mostly a girlie dance show. Was less thrilled that slutty women = villains and we left right about when they declared their weapons were high heels, lipstick and clothes. The only unexpected and redeeming thing was the pirates canonballed their warehouse of clothes and fireballs shot out.
Mystere was simply amazing. It's next to impossible to describe it, but the two men who were using each other to do hand stands etc off of were off the charts good. I loved it. Afterwards I had a bad collapse of my sugar and had to get some breakfast stuff at the cafe to turn it around. We had wanted to have dessert at Kahunaville but the waitress was wrong. You could only get bar food at that hour. I wasn’t happy but Mom had somehow twisted that to me being mad at her. (Huh?)
We fought all the way to Harrah’s. I don’t know why she has such issues believing the changes high/low sugar cause with my mental state. She has the same issues. I do get bitchy and I have issues thinking. Hell I was walking back staggering like a drunk. Sigh. At least that French toast at midnight did the trick.
At the Flamingo:
black neck swan
pretty koi and an albino cat
pelicans. They're injured (too much for the wild) and came from a rehab hospital to live a life of luxury.
not too bad
At the Secret Gardens in the Mirage
He kept splashing that ring all over the place
swimming, for some reason photobucket was NOT keeping my other dolphin photos. sigh. Ever since they changed it it's buggier than hell
I see you
it's supposed to be a wishing tree
white tigers cuddling
On the street:
Tiny Chewie
Paris, that's the hot air balloon my mug is modeled on.

Date: 2013-06-07 03:02 am (UTC)I remember you telling me about jumping overboard with your shoes to explore the house. I'd advise against it now. :D
D'awww. The duck with the broken leg I was feeding yesterday is a white duck with a semi-mallard boyfriend.
That is a wee!Chewie.

Date: 2013-06-07 03:03 am (UTC)I wonder if that's why MGM/Mirage sold off TI...
I love Siegfried & Roy's Secret Garden. I'm not sure how many times we've gone; it's changed around a few times, but the basics remain the same. The last time we were there the male white lion was out strolling around, and I got some great pictures of him.

Date: 2013-06-09 10:32 pm (UTC)I'm considering looking at a house on main street. It's cons: 1. Next to a bar. Literally. Like, a foot away. 2. Across the street from The Fish House. Pros: 1. Stained glass windows. 2. Two-story. 3. Fenced in yard.
The bar is more often between owners than open, which is also a pro.
