Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there.

I've been thinking a lot about finishing things. I always have too many projects for one. I'm buying my brother's digital recorder (mostly for work) and I'm thinking, rather than typing up my thoughts on a story. Typing is time consuming for me. If I at least dictate it, I'll have my thoughts because damn, I forget so many ideas/scenes as I go as new things flood in.

Sometimes that's my problem with finishing things. Real Life is another thing getting in the way and I've already linked you up to my internet issues. I need to find a better way of doing it. Here are some writing routines from the pros. No one thing works for everyone. I do know that we're all good at coming up with excuses for not writing, and that's what they are, excuses. Some are more legitimate than others (work getting in the way, children etc). Others less so.

What I need is competition. It's why I do so well with Camp Nano/Nano or [livejournal.com profile] gsd_rtfn.I need an outside force to measure myself against. If you were to weekly hold my feet to the fire, I would be able to do better. I need to make myself a goal. Andrea Speed, one of my favorite authors from Dreamspinner, is doing the Clarion West write-a-thon and her goal was 15 minutes a day. Now, that seems like an easy doable goal.

That's the thing, we need reasonable goals. I need a way to set up a writing goal AND an editing goal. I'm waiting, however, until I get these two classes down and my research paper. This is where real life IS legitimately interfering with my writing.

I'm open to hearing your tips for dealing with this issues.

same here. I get ideas far faster than I can write them (and I just saw the cover for the steampunk anthology I will be sad NOT to be in it if it comes to that)

it would be nice or at least twice a month

I'm with you there. sigh.

Love the father's day card!

I'm thinking about trying Camp NaNoWriMo as a Nanorebel. Just trying to do 30,000 words in any format on any variety of projects, not a novel. I can edit, but not much. If I made it to 50,000, then huzzah! I may try short stories, poetry, and essays. Just to get me going.
