It's my students reading abilities that are the real issue. I was asked when I interviewed here in 2005 'can you teach illiterate students?' Um I've been teaching a year so I doubt it. They hired me anyhow. When it came to the multiple choice only 3 out of 10 passed (7 out of ten passed once we added in the reading assignment and essays). Several did NOT answer the questions or answered them wrong. Here, this is what I asked.

Did I mention my new insulin is a bitch mother? I actually had to call and ask how to use it because NO WHERE in the instructions did it say turn the knob until the diamonds disappear and you see and arrow then pull out the knob and turn to the unit number. NO WONDER my patients hated insulin so much. This is worse than today's usual insulin where you basically turn the knob and shoot up. You have to roll this in your hand then shake it to mix it, prime it (ie squirt out insulin into the air) several times before it actually goes because it's sort of big particles and it must be cold AND must be thrown out ever 2 weeks whether or not it's used up.

And Kanda, much like with children and their parents there are two ways of getting attention a) by being good and over achieving (like you using your scratching pole for the first time in 4 years instead of my floor) or b) acting out and being bad. Why are you choosing B?

And I did drive to Jackson to get a blizzard since they were donating a dollar to the Miracle Network today. A little one since well lactose intolerance.

and last but not least, HAPPY BIRTHDAY [livejournal.com profile] catw00man! Hope you had a great day.

Mom and I went and had Blizzards, too.

Reading is fundamental! I guess. Unless you're in eastern Ohio?

Um, I don't see what you asked. Not that it matters, because I don't want a nurse who has no reading comprehension trying to make sense of my chart. Please let me never be sick in rural Ohio.

They're sooooo yummy.

Of course, after the day I'd had at work, I'd bought a couple of cookies at Just Rennie's, remember, the little salad/bakery shop where we got lunch?

I don't understand how they got into college if they're that illiterate. I know it happens with athletes, but I still don't understand.

To read makes our speaking English good, m'kay?

My dad always just used needles. But I've seen some of the crazy insulin things these days and they look pretty complicated, at least initially. I'm sure after awhile it'll be old hat for you.

Kanda is plotting to take over the world, didn't you know?

Go you with writing. You inspire me. You seriously do!

open admission means pretty much if you have the money you get in. doesn't mean you'll stay in (two of these will be out for good)

Oh I'm USED to injecting. I've been doing it for years but this is so old school I can see why it was replaced. Also it's not working so good, I'll be able to toss it soon enough.

Kanda is

thanks!

I have to find a Dairy Queen around here again. Both of the ones near us closed years ago.

Mmmmmmmmm, Blizzard.

Wait, I know where one is. Duh. Never mind. :)

I have to admit that while I read the article on the fatberg, I don't think I could answer those questions because apparently it drained right out of my sieve-like brain...

hahaha. I do like Blizzards but ice cream no longer likes me

hahaha well yes but if you were reading this with the questions in hand at the time, I think you could handle it just fine

Musk melons. Sometimes I like 'em, sometimes I don't.

this one is tasty mostly.

sadly the blackberries I just spent a mint on at the farmer's market aren't as good as hoped but remind me of the ones I used to pick

From: [identity profile] evil-little-dog.livejournal.com
Hmmm. I want a casaba melon, and they're hard to find locally.

Probably tame blackberries; they don't have the same amount of flavor, but no stickers, so farmers like them.

From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
we get them occasionally. this is an Athena melon

yeah probably. it IS a blackberry farm. at least it's not the giant tasteless thing in the grocery store

The farm where we get pumpkins had casabas last year. I want to go there and check to see if they have any casabas.

Yeah, probably a wild/tame cultivar, then. The guy I bought my berries from a couple of weeks ago said that's what his were, and they were nice, plump, and not quite tasteless, but not what I remembered from a kid, either.
