Sometimes I live thru others
Sep. 24th, 2013 10:56 pmLike today. We had two of the sabbatical research presentations, our first. Yeah that's right. My University didn't have sabbaticals until this past spring. I'm friends with both presenters. One did literary walking tours of Wales and the other made a gorgeous sculpture of 5 tons of river rock and stainless steel trees (which doesn't sound that great but it was, trust me) for Bob Evans's corporate office.
I'm proud of them and also I have an idea I would love to do for my own sabbatical one day. I would love to piggyback that trip to Italy to study Medieval/Renn anatomy art with one to Wales for the same reason (and/or the rest of the UK). Problem is the ungodly expense of it.
I have NO idea how to fund something like this. My school offers zero dollars for our sabbatical research. (which is why we see people in the humanities going for it, their research is a bit less equipment etc intensive). This is also not something I could get traditional science grants for. Other profs on the list who have been at this longer than me, if you have ideas, share please.
On the writing front, I'm making progress on the steampunk novella but I still need my feet held to the fire. Also I'm at 40K for the SF dystopia of doom that needs desperately a beta reader (as does the 1930's demon hunter).
