Buffy had loved Halloween and masquerade balls when she was young. She had coordinated parties in her early days at Hemery High. Of course, that was before being Chosen. She had enjoyed the costumes, had put a lot of work into it. Her mother had wished Buffy put as much effort into her studies as she did Halloween.
Halloween ended for Buffy at a time when it should have been the most fun, college parties. But after fraternities using real books of magic that nearly killed them all, after her every night being filled with nightmare creatures, after having friends who thought bunnies were terrifying, Buffy had lost her taste for it. She had almost turned down Angel when he asked her team to come help at a massive street party for Halloween, in costume. She chose Laura Croft simply for the ease of bringing along real weaponry.
It turned out to be the most terrifying Halloween party yet. Both Giles and Connor turned up dressed to the nines as Frank-N-Furter, compounding the horror by doing a duet of Sweet Transvestite . Buffy would never get the image of Giles gyrating around in tatty fishnet stockings, heels and a teddy bear nightie. In fact, she planned to burn all her teddies when she got home.
The silver lining: the look of terror on Angel’s face witnessing the display. Buffy was pretty sure Spike was still laughing.
