My day started with horror and blood

Appropriate for Halloween. I had to get my blood drawn for labs. That wasn't the horror. No, the whole phlebotomy department was dressed in fox outfits and dancing to that horrible song What the Fox Said. If they had left it for just a few minutes more, I'm sure the blood would have just run out my ears.

This is Carson Mansion btw in Eureka CA. I've coveted it for years (Hell I just want to live in Eureka).



I spent the day working on my blood sugar. I forgot my diabetic shake (it was a fasting blood sugar) so stopped at the Speedway because custard-filled Bavarian donut = diabetic shake.

I got tremendously annoyed by students today. Two of my better and long time students went off of me for daring to give a little quiz last week when 2/3's the class wasn't there. They were honestly sick and never miss. So what? 20 out 32 students were NOT there. Yes, we gave a punitive quiz. Suck it up (though I do admit the other prof making HER quiz 25 points was a tad excessive).

I'll ask you this. What would you feel like if students threw out their notes right in front of you, the moment the test is done or they learn it's not comprehensive (which they should have known since day one)? One of the same students was pissed because I marked up her rough draft of her paper for not using a single primary literature source where on day one I told them they had to use THREE and showed them. In fact the hyperlinks I used then were still showing they'd been clicked when I showed them AGAIN today?

I'm going to work on the novella tonight and for those of us starting Nano: GOOD LUCK!!!!

The cave was working SO bad last night. I thought I only had two. I had nearly a half dozen. It seems to be letting me keep three (are there no limits) but I'd be willing to give up the third of someone didn't get one.

of all the reality shows out there (and I just threw up a little in my mind over how many awful ones there are...), there should be one that visits various teachers at various levels of the educational system. it could hopefully show educators, administrators, parents and students what is being offered, tried, twisted and wasted.
