I hadn't really wanted to go, the policy stuff and all that BUT if you want to get anywhere in your career you need to play the politics of the game. I didn't know anyone else who was going. I don't even know how I made the list. But the art director and music director were there (only three faculty members!) and I spent a lot of time talking to them and other people.

Here's the weird thing. I'm slightly shy when it comes to talking to new people. Give me a beer and I'm good to go. The president had a very nicely stocked bar! I talked to many people, mostly the board of trustee money men and women. Not much just introduced myself. Spent some time talking to the president's husband and a whole lot of time with the faculty members (since let's face it, the money people don't really want to talk to the faculty all that much, at least not that I could tell). Ryan Smith the legislator for OH was there so real actual politicians were on deck.

The appetizers and desserts were yummy (it's the same company that does the cafeteria food but this is the top tier stuff and I'm pretty sure the college gets second or third). I always worry am I eating too much, not enough, does anyone else get like this? I did eat a lot of shrimp cocktail and these brie tarts covered with crunchy brown sugar. I was informed by one young lady I had to have a cream puff, they were life changing. Couldn't find one. I saw one lady with one and asked. She made them get me one (so yeah find the people in power). The prime rib was good too

It was a bit surreal with a big Christmas tree in a turn of the century living room standing right next to the president's son's bar mitzvah portrait. I ended up there for 2 1/2 hours and I never shut up once (once you get me going). My sugar is over the top (damn you tasty brie things). I got a Rio travel mug as a gift. So all in all, better than I thought.

I'm exhausted (thank you sugar and the fact I can't seem to sleep more than 2 hours at a clip any more) but I have some writing to do first.

Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today!

Glad you had a better time than you thought you would.

A Christmas tree next to a Bar Mitzvah picture? Oy vey. (but to each his own)

Thanks

yeah, poor Madam President, being Jewish in a school where half the faculty BELIEVE it's a Christian school (It is in fact not). She might be the only Jew in the whole county frankly. This is the Whitest, most Christian place I've ever lived

Perks of doing Flute Choir gigs at the President's house? Fooood and a check for $10. It was awesome. Being VP for the Arts was epic too. Soooo many crab puffs!

glad you enjoyed yourself - christmas parties always seem just a bit more festive and socially open (I talked my head off last night too)

I'm glad you went and had fun.

I went to my party too and I'm very glad I did. One of my former co-workers came and I hadn't seen him in over a year. It was great catching up.

Glad you had as nice a time as you could. For my part, put me in a room full of strangers and you would have found me hiding behind the Christmas Tree, or maybe behind the Bar Mitzvah portrait.

Thanks.

I know a lot of people who'd be with you. I'm an expert bullshitter so I'm usually okay once I get moving
