Sunday morning randomness
Mar. 6th, 2005 10:29 amtwo nights running I haven't been able to sleep, a few snatches of rest here and there. Might be my body is messed up from my dust allergies. Might be the furnace has found yet ANOTHER new horrific sound to make. AND last night the noises came from the basement again. For those of us old enough to have seen the George C. Scott movie from the 70's, The Changeling, you'll know this noise the hollow sound of thumping metal. (and if you've never seen this movie, rent it if you can find it. It's honestly frightening. Okay the FX will look a little hokey now but this movie didn't depend on that much). Every so often the sound of thumping metal issues from the basement, only at night. I've never found a cause. Once or twice it sounded like wind blowing down the chimney into the metal woodburner in the basement. Last night the banging wouldn't stop and it was doubling up. I've never heard it do that...
And I got a call from a friend from residency last night. She's moving out to CA with her husband (she had to close up her medical practice in MI and her boss is being a nightmare). Anyhow she put it in prespective for me last night. I'M moving in a few weeks. It's true. I'll be done teaching in 8 weeks. The only way I'd stay here beyond, that is if I don't have a job yet. Or leave my line open here and just forward it to PA. Damn, I'm moving again.
Had a dream last night. I can only remember fragments of it. I was with Woody from Crossing Jordan not the actor (who really doesn't do it for me much. He's cute and all but...). I'm not sure why. I don't even like the show. I just watch it now for something to do away from the computer. I don't mind Wood, Bug and Nigel but I can't stand Jordan (which made me sad. I wanted to love this show). Anyhow, we were in some kind a weird futuristic world. I don't remember much beyond him NOT impressing me taking me to his home and instead of using the slick elevated train, he insisted on this bizarre wooden subway which at first had only two seats (like a water ride at a park) but it got bigger when we got to the first stop when a Goth guy complete with top hat got on with his fru-fru girlfriend in pink who had a candy apple red coffin. By the time we got to Woody's beach house (in Boston??) the subway was the size of teh QEII. He slept on the sun porch so he could see the lagoon which was kinda cool and just as we were about to get it on my PARENTS show up. I can't even get laid in my dreams. WAAAH.
And because you know everyone will be doing this, I guess I will too. My only fear, is I will forget someone and hurt their feelings. I'm lucky if I can remember who I'm reading and what I'm reading. I'm that sad.
FANFIC AUTHOR'S APPRECIATION WEEK: You post a fave author for each day, March 6 through the 13. Tell why you picked them, give some links to their fic, say why you love them, their work, why they need more appreciation, and just wax poetic about your favorite authors for the entire week.
So March 6 - Gotta go with
evil_little_dog first up. I've been reading her stuff since Elfquest in the 80's so I guess I've been a fan for twenty years now. While she doesn't do much EQ any more, she turns out some fine BtVS/AtS as well as W/R X-men stuff. Most of her tales are heart wrenching and wicked. Heavy on Buffy and Angel, she doesn't give them an easy way to go and Wolverine and Rogue are fairing no better. And someday I hope you get to read the original fiction we're working on (Yes, ELD that's a hint). Check ELD out here

Date: 2005-03-06 06:24 pm (UTC)And yeah ELD is damn good.
And this house, I just came home and hadn't turned on the radio (I can't stand silence) yet. I was in the bathroom and I heard very distinctly the sounds of an old woman moaning. I've worked in nursing homes for years. I know the sound. It lasted on and off for about a minute. And I'm fairly sure I'm not insane.

Date: 2005-03-06 06:19 pm (UTC)I feel your fear on the fanfic authors appreciation thing. Half the time I can't remember who I'm reading much less the title.
And yes I have to agree ELD is a wonderful author. She always makes me weepy no matter what I'm reading of hers. And original fiction??? *pokes ELD and hints too*

Date: 2005-03-06 09:11 pm (UTC)Hey, I've got to find that chapter first. Moving and having papers in two places sucks, you know?
And should I be pleased or sad that I nearly always make you cry?

Psssh I can imagine. I think I lost 90% of my stuff when I moved...you know that would be a solution to all my pack ratty storing I'm doing now that results in too much junk and not enough spaace.

Date: 2005-03-06 09:26 pm (UTC)Yeah, you'd think I'd have thrown out stuff when I moved. Well, I did. Lots and lots. But a 14 room house has a tendency to collect stuff you forget about, right?

Maybe it'd be safer sleeping in the garage with Yukio.
