In the ongoing saga of Why Students WHY? My friend tells me one of her students showed up to lab 25 minutes AFTER it was over (so she's 2 hours and 25 minutes late) and said she slept thru lab and couldn't she do it now? Since my friend had something to do she said, fine but I have to go do this. You need to read it on your own and do it and use your text book to help (student did not bring that). About 10 minutes later she goes to my friend to tell her how she wasn't doing HER job by not helping her and left without doing the lab. The balls on these students.
And since I'm ignoring my sore throat and my edits (I got an extension) and since mom said I found you a good house, have another page in CoM's path to home ownership. No drinking or eating. I'm not responsible if you choke.
Here's the house mom saw. Dueling Banjos
Me- Mom, it's a manufactured home raised up on a basement.
Mom - maybe.
Me- Mom it's FUGLY.
Mom- you can fix up the outside.
Me- Mom, there is only so much make up you can put on a opposum before you just have to say I have a possum in bad make up.
Mom - Look at the kitchen. It's nice.
Me - oh course it is. the only nice kitchens and bathrooms are in manufactured homes.
Mom- has hard wood floors.
Me - I'll grant you it's not bad inside. But I see the water leak at the skylight because that's all skylights are good for. Also mom did you see that it's decorated with dead animals and bar stuff like he was listening to this song too long.
Mom - You're not buying the furnishings.
Me - how the hell do I get to it? It looks like it was thrown on a hill with no drive away.
Mom- That's a mystery.
And that song led me to this one. I do love Ray Stevens
Me- Look at this. You want to live with me mom, you can go up the servants stair case
Mom - like hell. Where the hell is Rutland (DO look at the interior pictures)
Me - no clue but it sums up what I've been in the last 8 years. We've looked at this one.
Mom - Still can't decide if that's a driveway or a sidewalk
Me - Well the cars don't seem to have a way from where they are to that drive.
Me - WAIT. FOUND MY HOUSE. Sears Kit Painted Lady (for those who aren't history geeks you used to be able to buy homes from Sears catalog)
Mom - Look at all the painting.
Me - look inside. Yes it's not entirely finished but it's 95K.
Mom - Didn't you said Nelsonville is over 50 miles away.
Me- I'll suck up the commute. Okay I really won't but man i wish more than ever I taught at OU and for the first time ever, that I taught at Hocking. If nothing else I need to find time and save these pictures. SOMEONE is living in this house if only in my dreams.
Kanda was trying to attack me in the shower but confused how. He was between the curtains and kept trying to slide into the tub but didn't want wet. Eventually he fell in. Then he figured it out. Oh right, I SIT on the floor and just reach my paws thru the curtains.' Dummy.
The big dumb thing on facebook now is throw back thursday but I thought you all might enjoy seeing the picture.

Me 1994 going to SD for a residency interview. And I think THIS is why I have no pity for my students. I'm 26 here. I'm finishing one residency and starting another. I'm seeing patients my own. I'm pulling 36 hour shifts. I still have time and energy to drive 180 miles round trip every weekend to go have fun. (well once I got to SD to live). I can't relate to someone who sleeps through an afternoon lab and wants the professor to go out of their way to let them make it up.

Date: 2014-02-28 04:51 pm (UTC)10 acres is nice.
the square footage is on another page that's why, in the non-picture page. The Painted Lady is 5650 sq ft

Date: 2014-02-28 08:31 pm (UTC)Man, those houses are inexpensive. The price of living in the California Paradise is HIGH. (Lots of needed rain this weekend -- all our seasonal wet in just two or three days...)

Date: 2014-02-28 09:30 pm (UTC)I live in Appalachia. It's cheap here. That house would be millions in your neck of the woods. Hope you get the rian in a reasonable manner

Rain has stopped for the time being, and the sun came out. Surely there will be more later... maybe.

Date: 2014-02-28 10:43 pm (UTC)The trailer home on stilts made my brain hurt. I do wonder how much it would cost to move the Rutland house to Florida, though. About ten times the purchase price of the building? Twenty? Whatever, I like it. And yeah, once I got it here, I probably would paint it the same colors as the Sears kit house. What's not to love about purple?

Date: 2014-03-01 02:33 am (UTC)You can't have that house in Rutland. Tht might be mine. Purple is good

Date: 2014-03-01 12:05 am (UTC)(Have you seen what houses go for on Long Island? You could pay for 2 people from freshman year through the Ph.D. around here! It's ridiculous!!) Here's a link to a house that friends of ours sold in 2004; the new owners are selling it now.

Still: I do understand why you didn't like it - it's not "you" - by any means. Your house needs more...character, more YOU.
As for your ballsy student: it's a whole new generation - many of whom don't know what a work ethic means, let alone having one....

Date: 2014-03-01 02:29 am (UTC)Yikes. Yeah I would be in an apt my whole life with those prices.
Yes, you are so right. You've seen a lot more teaching than I have. I have several friends on campus who are where you are, retiring or just retired from college life and for a lot of them they went out on a sour note with this new generation

Date: 2014-03-01 02:26 am (UTC)I like that house too. That house might be doable.
