Once again deep thinky thoughts about writing are on the back burner while I'm being held hostage by my edits (which I think I have worked out now).

But I'm thinking about that big story I have to yet with just a bare month to do it in. HELP ME. I know all three men like music. Even though it is a tiny part of the actual story, I need to figure out what the Scot-Irish druid plays. I know he has a little band that wants to play the Dublin Irish fest and the Ohio Renn fest and while it might just be one little scene, I need to know what he plays.

There are the Uileann Pipes

Your standard bagpipes

The classic Irish fiddle

And while I'm less fond of the drum, it might be less cliched than the other three choices. I could see the Druid playing like the long-haired drummer of Albannach (who rock. I need to upload my recordings of them).

So help me out.

I can't help but like the fiddle, but the drums are really lively and I wasn't familiar with them, so I'd definitely agree that they're a more different sort of choice.

I can't help like the fiddle either.

But certainly the drums (and he could mix it up with the bodhran too) are different than what I usually see for someone with this ethnic background

You already know my vote, but I'll include it anyway.

Also, congrats for real live fans!

I do. Your vote seems to be winning (the poor bagpipes currently have none)

It's a very fun thing to have fans

it was a hard choice between the uileean pipes and the drums. If you go with the fiddle, I know technical stuff from being a violinist if that helps.

thanks. I probably won't be going into it that detailed here but I have other violinists in other stories.

Uileann pipes are so superior to a big full rack of Scottish Bagpipes. I love them.

P.S. as you know, I play Irish music every Tuesday at The Dublin Pub. So I can also say that a LOT of us play more than one instrument. Bodhran is an instrument that a LOT of my fellow players play when they want to take a break from their main instrument, myself included.

One of my musical friends recently tuned me in to the Hardanger fiddle also known as the Hardingfele which is a violin with some extra strings that cause an additonal resonance. It's originally a Norwegian variety, but we're starting to see some occasional crossover into Irish music. There are a couple of known groups that sometimes employ Hardanger Fiddle.

I definitely planned on him playing the bodhran regardless (which why it was't a choice) I do love the uileann pipes.

Now I'm less familiar with the hardanger. I'm going to have to look that up. thanks.
