Just after Easter, Mom started having back pain. SHe has spinal stenosis so this is not out of the ordinary really. But it got much worse so she went to my brother for therapy. Then she told me about these blisters on the back of her leg down near the ankle. I said shingles. The urgent care doc disagreed (because he apparently got his degree from a cracker jack box). Her foot went entirely numb. Her doc agreed, it's shingles.

Now shingles can actually cause complete numbness. So can nerve compression. She has both going on. Then her artifical knee started bothering her. Brother taped it up and that helped but ortho wants her to have MRI any how. Because she couldn't feel her foot, she fell on it and tore up the tendons and now she's in a cam walker boot but she pretty much needs to use a walker to get around because she's so unsteady.

Naturally this has left her scared. What if it's permanent (she thinks some feeling is coming back)? What if she can't drive any more etc etc. Getting older is hell.

Of course I over did it on my back and it hurts like fuck. Whee. I have the tens unit on it now.

I've spent all day working on this computer. Ever since the update it's been fucked up. I downloaded free Avast! (and since I could do that I'm assuming it's not a huge virus since they usually stop you). I ran it many times including the boot scan which found a lot of corrupted files. sigh. Nothing I couldn't live without.

I posted this on FB but here A waltz by Anthony Hopkins Who knew he wrote music? It's beautiful.

Have a cute little dumbo octopus

Okay, I love the house. I notice they don't say where in FL (I'm thinking Gold Coast/farther South, for obvs reasons).

I also love Tally (http://elitedaily.com/envision/husky-raised-cats-therefore-thinks-shes-cat-photos/599720/), who is adorable.

Also, sorry about your mom.

Well, then. I wonder what they think of the horrors of the Star Trek/SF themed house in their neighborhood?

The worst part is, our parents start falling apart right when we start having health issues ourselves. You have a bad back and torn-up shoulders. I've blown my elbow tendons (or ligaments--what is tennis elbow, anyway?) I hope ELD is in better shape than we are. And I hope even more that your mom gets feeling back in her foot. Stumbling around on numb feet is obviously very dangerous.

exactly. It's rough. And now the diabetes numbness in my left foot is spreading from the big toe all the way to the middle of the foot. Whee fun.

tennis elbow is epicondylitis. it's inflammation of the soft tissues of the joint which can include tendons ligaments and joint capsule.

and thanks. (and good luck with the elbow)

At the moment, I'm doing okay? We'll see how that goes. My sisters, on the other hand, are falling apart. Their obesity doesn't help with that, though.

So sorry for your mom. I know that is scary. And you're right--everything's even more scary as you get old because you know it could be permanent. But it also can heal, so I hope hers does.

If nothing else she's got my brother the PT and the thought of being trapped in the house with my pain in the ass dad to push her toward recovery.

thanks

Am I imagining things or has shingles become an epidemic? Ten years ago, I knew of one person who got shingles, now it seems every third person I hear of is getting it or just got over it. Weird. But your poor mom. I hope she gets better soon, and I hope your back stops hurting (as well as all your other issues which, honestly!)

That is the cutest octopus I've ever seen. I've never even heard of a Dumbo octopus before.

good question. I don't know. Or is it that we're getting into the age range for shingles.

But thanks on both counts. This is driving me nuts because I HAVE to clean this place up and now I can't bend over and do it.

Isn't he adorable? It's the cirrata suborder of octopoda. There isn't much known about the finned ones because they live so deep. We're more familiar with the incirrata, your typical octopus.

I was just thinking about you yesterday as I caught up on some TV. I just saw the Criminal Minds sent in Wheeling. That was PAINFUL. It's like dudes, Wheeling is a steel town, not the Hatfields and McCoys (I'm not even sure if it's part of Appalachia). I'm fairly sure I haven't heard that accent there. I hear it down HERE mind you (and I have had several Hatfields as students and one as my dean).

That Criminal Minds episode was horrible! I quit after the Chief of Police showed up with that accent. Way to insult an entire region, assholes. I posted on Facebook, WE SOUND LIKE WE'RE FROM PITTSBURGH, YOU MORONS! The people in Wheeling were going insane, as you can imagine. I had already stopped watching CM. This? Did not bring me back.

exactly (and how much do I hate that all the people HERE sound like that. Horrible accent).

I'm watching the season out but this is probably it for them.
