Ever get a song or a saying stuck in your head? I have two and they're taking turns.
The Song - The Slinky song (and if you're not old enough to remember that don't tell me I might just hurt you)
The Saying - Post Hoc ergo Propter Hoc . Don't even ask me why that is echoing in my brain.

Suddenly now at least THREE places I'm putting in my resume want NO letters of recommendation and just the names and phone numbers of my references. I could kiss them. I wish they'd all do this. It makes much more sense than a bullshit letter.

I wasn't sure I was going to put this here but hell why not. Mom confessed something to me after we left the casino. Why she waited, I can guess at but she figured I was the only person who wouldn't laugh at her. The dead have spoken to her before just like me but she tries to rationalize it away. My mom's sister's been dead a year this month. A few weeks ago my mother got a phone call that went like this.

Mom - Hello
Caller - Judy, come get me
Mom (instantly recognizing the voice but won't admit it) - Who is this?
Caller - It's your sister, Loretta
Mom - It can't be
Caller - Of course it can. Come get me. You promised me you wouldn't leave me here.
Mom - I can't come get you.
Caller - Judy, please come get me. My house is filled with strangers.

And the line went dead. The people who bought my aunt's house are living there now. Mom wants to know if I believe her. I told her she just described classic EVP. Mom wants to tell Sherri (her niece) and go over there. I'm like wait for me. You two have no idea what you're doing. Though it's been a while since I called a spirit.

Maybe I am going mad...

I can't speak to you and your mom's conversations with the dead (although I am finding "Medium" an interesting show this season), but the songs and sayings going through your head? Classic signs of fatigue.

I do not :-P I wanted to like this. I did. I've done this work. I was living in a town with a psychic community for three years. I think I've said why I hate it many times in my LJ. Mostly, she's a cold bitch and her husband's creepy

I really like the character of her husband. He seems very sympathetic while not being unrealistic--he has his problems with what he does, but he's still supportive.

another reason I didn't like her. She's late to dinner every episode. He doesn't complain. He's late once, she bites off his head. It bothered me. Well most everything she does was like cheese grater on skin for me.

Did I tell you about my epic insomniac period, during the Spring of season 4 of Angel? It started in February and went into July. 4 hours of sleep on a good night, every night, for MONTHS.

And every night, I had "Mandy" playing in my head over and over and over and over.

And visions of pregnant Evil!Cordelia.

Not to interrupt - but, of course I am.....

I had an insomniac period that lasted for about 6 years --- right through menopause. The Doc kept telling me it would pass. I tried melatonin tea, black cohosh, calcium supplements, Ambient, Nyquil, seemingly everything.

When I found the solution I wept: (1) regular exercise, like walking, at least 1/2 an hour/day, 3-4 times a week, and (2) calcium/magnesium supplements.

My regular bedtime is between 12:30-1:30 a.m. For me? that's a blessed bed time. Still, I occasionally hit a night where I get to sleep at 4:30 a.m., then up at 7:30 a.m. Those days, at my age? killers.

I'm a morning person. I hit the bed like a narcoleptic at 9:30 or 10 pm. Fall asleep very easily.

Then wake up wide awake at 1:30 am, 2 or 3.

I have pills I take to fall back asleep. But if it's 4 or later, I often just get up and write.

Oh yes, I remember the menopause inspired insomnia well. I went for at least a year getting an hour of sleep at a time, tossing and turning (and sweating) for ages. I was one cranky woman, let me tell you. I tried all kinds of remedies, but the only cure was time. Now I still have occasional bouts, but I have learned to cope. I'm like you, a night owl. If left to my own choice, I'd go to bed at 2a.m. and sleep til 10.

Yeah I'm a night owl too and have been all my life since mom brought me home from the hospital. I've had insomnia all my life. Didn't sleep last night either (just as well I'm getting an early start on the day it's snowing like mad)

Yeah Mom's seen other dead but usually only those in her own family. Found of grandma can too which is why she won't go in the living room by herself (they used to lay out all her siblings there after they died. THere wasn't a funeral home around)
