The sad announcement first. Andre Norton passed away today. However, it's hard to feel too sad, she was 93 and that's a good run by anyone's standards. I adored her work growing up.
And on to my fic. Inspired by the Wal-Mart Beer Run debacle, I worked up a St. Paddy's Day story. It's post NFA, BtVS/AtS X-over, it's short and kinda silly with a melancholy end. The Parting Glass.
As for the debacle, I go to get beer since it's snowing again I really don't want to be out in it so I go to buy beer. They have six packs and cases of Killian's. A case is always a better buy. I look at the price, the price inside the beer locker is 5.50$ for the six pack but out on the kiosk with the words IRISH BEER the price is a dollar more. I point this out loudly and the staff glares at me. So I debated that or Leinenkugel's red (it's locak and not bad). I go for the Killian's well after standing in the enormous line, it's NOT a case of Killian's. They're only selling six packs. So WHY is the case box unopened on the floor (multiple ones). I had to go get the case of Leinenkugel's and get back IN the enormous line. By then i needed a drink.
On the way home I noticed someone had food colored ALL the snow along their drive so it was green.. Well let me continue making the dent in my case of beer.

Date: 2005-03-18 03:11 am (UTC)Andre Norton was one of the first scifi writers I ever read. I haven't read any of her stories for a long time. I didn't realize she was that old! but then, I did read her work over 30 years ago..
Happy St. Paddy's Day - cheers!
