Writerly Ways
Feb. 1st, 2015 11:27 pmI had things to say but making a test and all around laziness took over. However, that is what I plan to talk about tonight. Laziness, not test making.
Okay, to be fair maybe 'lazy' isn't the solitary problem I'm facing and I'm not facing it alone. 'Writers block.' I know at least a half dozen of us have been complaining about it. I don't know if it's just lag from the holidays (and in some cases nano burn out too) or what but no one seems to be writing.
I need to be writing. I wanted to get moving on Blood Red Roulette before I got the edits for Soldiers of the Sun which will take up all spring. I've done jack shit. New things have popped up then fizzled. I've edited nothing either other than A Wolf in the Fold which I'm probably going to put away again. It's not really romance. I really need for the LGBT indie publishers to start doing more non-romance.
Anyhow, I was thinking of a few things. One, does anyone want to share their ways of getting past a block and/or links that help to do the same? Here's mine from Chuck Wendig (and if you don't know Terrible Minds, then know this, it's definitely NSFW!) Art Hard
The other thing I thought might help us get moving is a little accountability. (yeah I know I suggested this like two, three weeks ago and nothing but tumbleweeds blew through. I'm trying again, okay?). Nothing major. Maybe once a week (like sunday) we put up at least a word count of what we achieved and maybe lay out a single, simple goal for the following week. Maybe that will help. What do you think? Anyone interested?
No, no word count for the year this time. I didn't DO anything.
have some literary tattoos instead. Maybe someone will tatt something to themselves that we wrote (Hey, I had someone consider it).
Any bets how bad they'll mess this up?

Date: 2015-02-02 05:06 am (UTC)Sounds good. Maybe we should set a goal tomorrow then.

Date: 2015-02-02 08:58 pm (UTC)I get a writing high from NaNo, but then tend to dry up completely afterward. I have to see if I can keep up the momentum.
Hell, even =I= gave up on Heroes, and I will watch a show into the ground.

Date: 2015-02-02 09:09 pm (UTC)Yep same here with nano. I think maybe if we prod each other along a little it might help
snort. I'm quick to bail sometimes and yeah definitely bailed on heroes

Date: 2015-02-03 02:37 am (UTC)I need to take Wendig's advice and slot out writing time and stick with it

Date: 2015-02-02 10:13 pm (UTC)Outside of Nano, I don't really set wordcount goals, but if you post about it, I will drop in and mention mine (I do seem to be doing a bit more writing directly at the computer lately, so I can trust I'll at least have something to say) and cheer people on.

Date: 2015-02-02 10:48 pm (UTC)Cheering people along is helpful, at least to me. It feels less like you're out there alone

Date: 2015-02-15 11:17 pm (UTC)I definitely want to cheer the rest of you on! I like to see my friends do well (hey, I'd rather see just about anyone do well, really, I just wouldn't be as personally invested in the results). I'm always glad to say something if such a small gesture can help just a little bit.
