and I ran into the secretary's office where they were talking, 'You're talking about Girl Scout Cookie! OMG where are they? I Want them. Yes I know the box size AND the cookie size has gotten ridiculously small but I want them.' A co-worker's daughter is selling them. Here's my pay check. Turn it into cookies.

And I wish the rest of this post was happy. It's not. The provost caved and we're keeping this horrible schedule. My students were literally in tears. The FACULTY were in tears. Oh, sure the faculty who only teach 3 credit hour classes were rejoicing.

I came home and looked at the job boards, The Chronicle of HIgher Education. For PA/OH/WV there are a TOTAL of 7 biology jobs (not anatomy jobs just biology in general) and FOUR were 1 year visiting professor jobs.

So tell me something happy because I have for happy is the promise of overpriced G.S. cookies and oh, I DID buy [livejournal.com profile] seta_suzume's book. Check her LJ out for details.

I could use some input on my own story. Check out last night's post. Seriously. I would love some help.

I'm rather ill today before I got that news. Dizzy, occasionally feeling hot (no fever). If it wasn't lab day I would have canceled. I might as well have. We caved to the professors who don't want to do a motherfucking thing. Why am I working harder than they are? Oh right, I'm trying to do what's right for the students.

Also I did have 3 100%s on that exam yesterday. All three are students in their 40s. Whatever we were doing 40 years ago, we need to start doing again and I can assure you it wasn't going to school the least amount of time we can.

My friend, ES, sent this which counts as a 'good thing.' Ghibiland Theme Park yeah, it's not real but just imagine if it was.

And you can see Jana's What's Up Wednesday post here

declutter day 326 item tossed -shiki tsukai why kept -Was asked to review why tossed-It was good but not something I followed.

That theme park would be awesome!

And I am so, so sorry that apparently no one gives a crap about actually educating students.

that park would be

And we're STILL better than my other homeland (because that's how I see WI) where their moron gov. just cut 300 Million out of education

Walker NEVER went to college (well he dropped out) which is unusual since politicians are so often lawyers.

He's a total dumbfuck.

What we did 40 years ago was take notes and study. A lot. Or some of us did.

Hugs about the schedule! Keep your eyes on that job board.

I have a new-to-me car! 2011 Nissan Versa, fire-engine eff-me red. I own about half of her. The bank owns the rest.

Yeah that's exactly what we did. Our phones didn't think for us.

Thank you

Oh cool. I hope you like her

heeee! to the cookies (everything is smaller and crappier now, except for us of course =D)

and, just yesterday, I was thinking about being 50 and wishing I had waited to go to college until now because I would learn so much more and do so much better. I am more interested and focused now than I ever was in my teens and 20s.

From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
yes I agree with that

that could be it and it could be we learned better back then (we were'n't helped along by no child left behind. If we messed up we failed) also now we know how shitty it is without an education and retail jobs etc. there's one prof here I want to punch in the throat. She keeps saying if she could do it again she'd never get an education.

so true - we had real failure (before it was outlawed) when we failed, so we had to stay on top of things or experience real consequences. We also grew up in an analogue world where going across town (or even across the world) without a bottle of water and a cell phone was done every day. I miss that world.

I do love being able to look something up right away from where ever I am via google on my phone - but that only feeds into the growing immediacy and impatience we are having to adapt to. But... it is nice to have constant, updated, multi-sided information at our fingertips at all times... I remember dream-wishing for that back in the early 80s. I just didn't know it would come with an idiocracy... And it doesn't make sense that it would... but there you have it. Life is not without its ironies.

This is true. It's very convienent (I don't own a smart phone) but yeah it's turning us into imbeciles.

I wish I had good news, but I'm looking for some myself. Um, let's see, I only have one more day of work this week...?

I know you're not really interested in high school, but what about some of the signature schools or something like that?

Date: 2015-02-05 04:45 pm (UTC)

Yeah that's better than me. i have to work friday. the only idiot still working 5 days a week on a 4 day system.

Still no jobs.

And MOm's taking me out to eat?

Ewwww, ewww, and ewww.

I suppose the students protesting at the provost's office would do nothing to sway him/her?

Ugh to no jobs for either of us.

that's a good thing

I suggested that to them (and next week I'll be starting at Macy's...)

FWIW: A few months ago, The Daughter and I were scouring together looking at the job situation in Louisville, KY. At that time (Don't know about now) there were a ton of jobs at universities there for faculty to teach biology, anatomy, and health care. Same, also, for Wisconsin and upstate New York.....

Date: 2015-02-05 09:25 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
Nothing now. I have a prof who wants to go to KY since that's where she's from. WI just gutted 300 million from the school system forcing universities to cut back and/or close (way to go WI). I unfortunately can not afford NY not with my loan repayments. Thank though

no problem. (By the way, the college in NY - cobleskill - is 4-6 hours from NYC. The cost of living is WAY less than downstate. Here's a cute house: http://www.trulia.com/property/3063623863-107-Seward-Ln-Cobleskill-NY-12043#photo-12

Yay for GS cookies! Some Girl Scouts were selling some while I was out shopping before Christmas and I got a couple of boxes. Then I found out my boss's daughter is old enough to be a GS and ordered a couple more boxes. Only one flavor overlap between the buys. I can never have enough Thin Mints.

I definitely ordered thin mints and tagalongs. God I loved them from when I was a G.S.
