Last night Mom found a pretty perfect house for me here. DANA YOU HAVE TO SEE! IT'S THE PERFECT KITCHEN FOR YOU.

I look and the kitchen is painted black. I love it. Mom has finally given up on me being normal and she's embracing the weird. Please look at the pictures because for those of you still not quite grasping where I live and the people around me, THIS house typifies them. RE: duck camo curtains. just saying.

Pros: inexpensive, private with enough property to be nice but not too much to care for, ranch because I'm staring disability in the face in not too many years off in all likelihood. DAD approved if you can imagine that

Cons: Pomeroy. Yep, pretty much if I want a real house and not an overpriced trailer I have to live in a dying town with no prospects, I'll still be HERE, somehow still 30 miles from work and the same from my friends in Athens. SIGH. Could flood, just saying

But the biggest con: Next week the president of the college is coming to give us a doomsday talk about how much our salaries will not be improved this coming contract negotiation and worse, pay cuts will be in the works. I CAN'T make less than I do. I said that and my secretary got snarky. Yes, she makes way less than me but as I pointed out because I wasn't feeling particularly generous, that SHE'S not in debt like I am. Yes, it's one thing to not make a lot. It's entirely another to not make a lot and be carrying the burden of 12 years of schooling on your back. I don't think anyone gets that once my students loans are paid I have less than 1000$ to cover everything.

I won't be able to buy anything if I get a pay cut. I'll be trapped here where idiots reign. Whee.

Enough of that. How about some fun for those who are still with me.

One: Writer's Recharge -find it here I wrote more last week than all January.

bad translations quite silly.

Music Monday - I came across Delta Rae a year or so ago. Three of them are siblings (the really, really blond one). They sing folk music and I found their style and range really impressive.

Bottom of the River was the second song of theirs I came across and even though it's not my usual style I enjoyed it.

Dance in the Graveyard was my introduction to the group and I really loved the song. I thought about giving just the lyric video then decided against it. Some people had a problem with it because the brothers and sister are dressed up a voudon priests. While there are Caucasians who are into voodoo, it's obviously heavily associated with Africa so you can see the problem. If you can look past that there is something of value in this video besides a good song. They have couples of every type celebrating even though death has taken one, young and old, mixed raced, LGBT and that is a very cool thing.

And speaking of LGBT issues, this one is a bit old now but was written in protest to the ugly laws their home state was trying to pass against gay marriage. It's a song about marriage equality, Chain on Love. It's also one of the reasons I think they didn't mean disrespect in the above song. They were well versed enough to know about how it used to be illegal to marry someone of another race and that's in here.

If I loved You has a dark quality to it that appeals to me for reasons I'd rather not think too hard on.

I will Never Die is just another cool song.

Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today!

I really like Delta Rae, so thanks for introducing them to me.

I hope you don't wind up with a pay cut. That's awful.

thanks. I'm glad you like them. I think they're talented young people

Yeah it's looking inevitable. What can you expect when we try to pay our president the same as a large college. She literally makes up about SIX faculty members worth of pay

publicize the president's pay somehow - media link? flyer? and start a petition to have her half it to help the school and to keep things fair with the rest of the faculty "during these difficult times". if she wants to freeze pay and cut pay, shouldn't hers be included?

ALL college presidents are like this. She makes peanuts in comparison. Everyone knows so it really wouldn't matter. The board approved it. The students know it. The two times out of three I came close to being arrested in college were protesting presidential salaries. Like all CEOs they aren't going to take a pay cut

So sadly true. They do it openly and get away with it. I think what rises most (in our system) is ruthlessness. Not "the cream". It's not even the hardest working.

Awesome house. Are there any houses that aren't in a dying town in your area?

It may be time to look for work somewhere else, if you can find something that pays better. Yeesh.

I love Bottom of the River and Dance in the Graveyards by Delta Rae. They're a band worth watching.

Quantum wants something. Apparently it was not gooshyfood, which he is ignoring, but the chance to run after Nano and piss her off.

I'm pretty sure the answer to that is no because this is a dying area outside of Athens which is @45-60 miles from work and very expensive tax-wise

I AM that's how i learned there's less than a dozen jobs in the entire country.

I agree about Delta Rae

Quantum don't be a jerk

that's a great price for all that! lots of property and out buildings. and, yep, rednecks are the same everywhere. the pics look like they were taken out where I used to live. query: would the mortgage payments be more, less or about the same as the rent where you are living now?

more, probably by a lot plus all the utilities.

Mom is doing okay. I won't be doing anything before the spring. mom (and dad) could come down. I'm also looking at job ads

I like that house and all the stuff that comes with it. Even the bubba barn.

Your president kind of scares me. It's like we're determined to close the college and forget the students who need schooling to get a decent job. I kind of like [livejournal.com profile] 0_mother_0's comment about publizing the president's pay compared to everyone else's.

it's a nice house

Well to be fair I'm not sure she DOES make that much. The other president did but it already is public knowledge. She makes far less than MOST college presidents. Most are over the million mark

I like that kitchen, but seriously, couldn't those people have taken a few minutes to clean up their shit before they had pictures taken and posted on the real estate site? Apparently they have never seen HGTV.

As for your President, she reminds me of our City Manager. Makes a shit ton of money, sneaks in raises for the (male) department heads, and then cries poor to the rest of us and never replaces employees who leave so the others have to take up the slack with no additional financial incentive.

no one here ever cleans for this p ictures. Never. Unless the place is totally empty.

Well to be fair I'm not sure what this president makes. She's brand new but our last one was making a salary that bankrupted us.

You should have that house. You need the granite-topped office space. Think of all the papers and shit you could pile on there and still have space for a computer. And there's a storage shed, and a guest cottage for your live-in caregiver when total disability hits :P. As for the camo curtains, just move in your very own Duck Dynasty camo recliner to match them. No, I'm not joking, I saw the recliners in Blocker's last time I was there (buying my tasteful paisley tapestry recliner, for the record, though I would happily have sprung for the denim-upholstered recliner I saw there years ago. Nothing could be more practical than lounging on a giant pair of jeans.) Just remember not to drink the water in Pomeroy. Apparently it's poisoned.

I'd groan about your work situation, but all colleges are pretty much like that. Is Rio public or private?

Snort, yes Pomeroy is special. It's a great house. it really is.

All colleges are. And rio is BOTH, how's that for special. the first two years is public community college and the last two private university (I'm employed by the university)

We be classy here.

It's NOT unmade. It's showing off OSU pride, yeah that's it. the jeans tossed over it really pulls the room together
