I have lost one of the first celebrities/characters I ever fell in love with. R.I.P Mr. Nimoy. I can’t believe he’s gone and this article is right. His last tweet breaks my heart

I knew it was coming but I still prayed he'd live a Vulcan life span. He's been with me since the day I was born. No lie, Mom watched Star Trek in the room they had her in before I was born that night. I can't remember a time when I didn't love Spock. Learning to love and respect the man behind the character took some age and wisdom and now he is gone.

photo Leonard Nimoy at BU_zpsdurmlmkj.jpg I don't know why but this picture made me smile.

I can't really say just how much Star Trek and Mr. Spock meant to me. High School was rough. Being the geeky, brainy Amazon made me a daily target of bullies. There were days I was sure I would die (I have always had easy access to any number of weapons to turn against myself). I would think to myself, being the geek I am, what would Mr. Spock do? That kept me going, kept me alive, kept me excelling.

Yes, that was just a character but one Mr. Nimoy gave life to brilliantly. I will miss them both so very much.

I saw the news over lunch at the office. I went to print something in the secretary's office and saw my co-worker RI, who is a big fan too. We both started crying.

You looked like you had a good sense of humor and I wished I knew you better. photo spock with guitar_zpsriqtoneb.jpg

Goodbye, Mr. Nimoy. I only got to meet you a handful of times and through some of the tweets you sent to me, but I'm going to miss you. I don't know how to sing the Kaddish (or even when it's proper to sing it, though oddly it's on youtube).

Instead let me share Ravel's Kaddish because his beautiful music is always appropriate.

Jewish prayers are always sort of song, so perfectly appropriate.

His final twitter are such a beautiful statement. A very special person who will be missed.

You actually don't sing the Mourner's Kaddish. It's just spoken. Same words as the Reader's Kaddish, but that one is sung.

You're the first person I thought of when I'd heard the news because I knew how much you love him. It's very sad.

You are, of course, correct. I stand corrected.

There are a lot that are sung. And this prayer does have a version that is sung too. The Kaddish is one of the first prayers I learned growing up and it's the one that most people remember long after they stop going to services because you need it the most, sadly.

Oddly the first time I heard about the Kaddish was not from any of my Jewish friends but from a comic book and they were singing it. I assumed that it was sung in general. I did listen to it on youtube though it feels odd listening to a prayer that way

Ah, I see. Thanks. I find things like that fascinating.

I do love him and I'm very sad today

I didn't hear until I came home and caught the news.

In just two months, this has been a TERRIBLE year. :(

It has been. It's a shit year and it's only 8 weeks long so far. Also today a friend lost her cousin and another his boss (though I'm wondering if that's the same person for both)

I truly love the "Vulcan of Love" picture!

And I think we loved him because he was us--the brainy odd one among all the jocks, the one who didn't fit in, the one who showed us our way was a good way.

We'll all miss him so much.

I love it too

You know I never thought about it that way but you're right. That's exactly who he was.

*sighs* Spock was my favorite character from Star Trek too. I wish I had the chance to meet Mr. Nimoy like I did with Mr. Takei. He seemed like such a nice person and I know he'll be sorely missed by family, friends, and fans. *sighs*

I've seen most of the original cast

It was. I've not met many others (that was when the prices went up to @75 $ and up and back in the late 80s, early 90s that was insanely expensive)

*nods* Yeah? I've only met George Takei, Michael Dorn, Terry Farrel, & Casey Biggs. They're all very nice people. :D I've seen Patrick Stewart speak at a con too.

I would love to see Patrick Stewart. I've met George but would love to do so again

I wasn't impressed with him. I found him whiny & full of himself.

I'd love to meet George again too. :D

aw that's too bad. That's how I saw Shatner but he's made a career out of being full of himself.

Yeah... XD

But you expect that with Shatner, so it's not a surprise & it feels like him, if that makes any sense.

Awesome icon! :D
