That wasn't as easy as it should be
Sep. 15th, 2015 10:09 pmSo I tried to get two appointments today. I couldn't get into PT until the middle of next week. I'm going to go to the gym on my own. The hell with this crap. And I was really pissed off at my doctor's office today. I called Ohio Gastro because I hate the gastroenterologist here and there is NO ONE other than up in Columbus but they needed an actual referral. I haven't had to get one of those in a decade. So I call my doc. After about a half hour I realize what they're doing.
It's noon so everyone is at lunch. Now this is how not to run a business 101. If you're going to have EVERYONE go to lunch together then have a message that says that. My dentist does. My secretary does. I know it's possible. Granted I think it's dumb. Either go to lunch early or late or half go early half late because most people will call at lunch for appointments because we leave for work before the offices open and get home after they close. LIke I said, shitty way to run a business. I left it on speaker phone. An hour and a half later they finally answer.
So I got a really late start on the day and didn't get nearly half of what I wanted to do done. ANd I got home to see no message. I have no idea if they gave the Gastro guys the referral. If they made an appt or what. I have no trouble with doctors but my god in the last 15 years I've had NOTHING but trouble with incompetent receptionists.
Well I just broke a mirror I've had for 30 years and now I'm sad (a gift from Shari). I don't need 7 years of bad luck. Well given how terrible my luck has been since 1999, maybe it'll work in reverse. I'm just glad I didn't cut my foot on it.
And now the internet is acting up again.
And on to writing. CHeck out Queer Sci Fi on facebook all week. We're doing world building in SF and Fantasy (so yeah not necessarily LGBT oriented this week). I'll be talking about alien and magical races tomorrow so stop in. And if you have any thoughts on that you want to share here that I can put up tomorrow, share away.
interesting take on writing It makes a valid point. Some days I do not write but there is a flip side to this, taking too many days off creates just as much shame as least as far as I can tell listening to people.
Then there's this from Mr. Wendig which is not quite counter to this but sort of. Don’t wait for motivation We've all heard that writer. The one who has to be 'inspired.' He has a lot of good points on why this doesn't work (as does Stephen King, Neil Gaiman etc).
And how about this on being a prolific writer I think both the article AND Mr. Wendig make good points. I think you can be prolific and good. I also think that churning books out like mad might not be a good thing (because if nothing else the readers might suspect the quality isn't there). I do have a problem with my publishing house saying that all the time. You must publish 4-6 novels a year. Yeah NOT everyone can. Not everyone should. And how many pros do you really see doing that?

Agh to the making appointments and needing a reference etc. Here's hoping they did send a reference and make the appointment for you.

Date: 2015-09-17 11:24 am (UTC)Sorry about your mirror, but I;m glad you didn't step on it. Hopefully it brings you good luck instead of bad.
I liked the articles. U just had a bday fic to write & I was kinda fretting over not being able to start, but after letting the idea mellow a bit in my head, when I sis sit down down finally (after a few half-arsed attempts), it just flowed. :D So I believe that when it's time to write, write, if not, let it wait until it's ready & do something else & not worry about it. :D

Date: 2015-09-17 02:05 pm (UTC)Yeah!
*Nods* Yeah. That's when I usually draw & if I don't feel like drawing, I'll just sit & watch anime or Asian drams, or movies, or read, or basically goof off. The weird thing is, goofing off by watching someone else's creative efforts usually gets mine going. ;p
