I decided early on that going to Columbus was out since yes it was still very cold and drizzly. As I told ELD, if I was 28 I probably would have gone. At 48, not so much.

I decided to go to free comic book day at a comic book shop I'd never been to in Portsmouth but I took forever getting ready (mom called me like three times). And then the internet died. When it finally came back I got the address and went to Google maps. It says it didn't exist. Okay then. I googled around and found the oldest brewery in OH is in Portsmouth of all places (and I've had one of the beers from there). I figured I'd pop in afterward once my GPS proved Google wrong about that address.

Only it didn't. My GPS had no idea what that address was either. So I scrapped that and went back to the freaking Kroger's. I was going to bring pizza to the Nano write in tomorrow until I realized that Cardos is closed on sundays (he's very religious). I got something to make for the potluck.

I was going to go back to Arch & Eddie's for another beer but then on a whim I decided to stop in the Tea Caddy where I haven't been in a while and to my surprise there sits L. I knew she was going to a show at the Markay Theatre up the block but never expected her there. Everyone talked. Me, L, her friend, the owner and some other customer.

From there I went to Fairmount cemetery in Jackson. It's still an active cemetery but also old at the same time. It's terrifying to drive in. For one it's cut into a hill. The road hasn't been expanded since horse and buggy days and sometimes it's a blind curve. If you get a tire over the edge you ARE rolling head over wheels onto the graves below. You can't pull over and I have no clue what the hell you're meant to do if you meet someone (and there were lots of people roaming around today). Worse it's a maze that goes on further than you think.

From there I also hit the tiny cemetery that inspired a story that I had out in a charity anthology last year (see Jana's post). I've always wondered if the mound in the middle was a Hopewell Indian mound but never really stopped since it's on the scarier side of town. Turns out it was. It's called James' cemetery after Major John James who was a town father and he and his family are buried atop the Indian Mound.

This cemetery has a horrible feel (the whole street does. Even mom noticed because one of the apartments I was directed to when I first moved here was a block off this and neither one of us got more than two steps from the car before we got back in and left). I suppose having a bunch of people buried in an Indian Mound might have something to do with it. That and nearly 90% of the headstones are broken and tossed about. There is construction stuff in the cemetery like someone is trying to fix it but it's been there for years now.

I came back home, turned on the oven only to have it not work. The heating element is in three pieces. AGAIN. I'm so fucking tired of this. That means instead of enjoying myself or grading I'm cleaning all the things so the landlord doesn't bitch. And he'll still say 'the oven's dirty and that's why it broke) in fact the oven is NOT dirty or 'can't you cook in the microwave? You don't need the oven.' This is the fourth time in two years. SO pissed.

And then the knob fell off the crock pot which is now taking FOREVER to heat up. time for a new one

I'm still cleaning and it's after midnight and there went my first parts of nano writing time. Sigh.

And then mom called and my brother was in the hospital. His furnace had gone back. Him, his wife and the cats all have varying levels of carbon monoxide poisoning. He's back home now but he was there all day. Sigh.

Those are two very strange cemeteries. Though you might recall the old one I took you to in town here that had a lot of very narrow roads that were abutted on either side by stones. Fortunately, not very busy but still.

Sorry about Brother and his wife and pets. Brrrrr.

As you can see, I have internet at the moment. I'm shocked, I've been fighting with it off and on all day.

They very much are. Honestly I don't remember the one we went to being that narrow but you did mention it last night.

It's built up on a tall hill (one of the few hills in Evansville) and the roads criss-cross each other in amongst the stones.

It would be. Geeze. Come on brother, you're supposed to be smart.

Maybe tomorrow.

that's what this is like. NARROW roads

apparently not as informed about CO as should be

good luck

Yeah, the roads are fortunately such criss-crossy, you don't have to go far to avoid another vehicle.

I guess not.
