The Wounded Goose

cornerofmadnessToday was long. Labs then meetings (which held some hopeful moments if true). The Organic Chem prof and I wanted to go out last week but decided that today would be better because everyone is here for the meetings. Still only he and I and BB went (one of the ones who forgot me for Gaiman's thing but I am letting that go).
We went to the Wounded Goose which has an ambitious menu but can be hit and miss from what I've heard. This is my first time there. OChem really likes it. They have wild game and stuff but the special tonight was turducken. I'm not into that. I got something called a Hot Brown from the famous Brown Hotel in Louisville KY. It's just an open faced turkey sandwich with tomato and bacon covered in a parmesan cheese sauce. Loved it.
The beer on the other hand was weird. First the waitress says I can only serve you beer not wine because I'm not 21 and you have to be 21 to serve wine. WTF? Seriously what difference does this make? She gets the order wrong. "I don't drink beer so I didn't know.' You have ears, right? I pointed out what I want. If you had brought me anything BUT an IPA I'd have drank your mistake but I'm not drinking that. Be happy I still tipped you because you were a very lax waitress to boot.
I'm supposed to please you. I'm not really even supposed to talk, but you keep talking to me so what can I do? You can't possibly just want me to sit around here watching holos and eating your food and giving nothing in return,” Kaleo said, his voice cracking. He knew what would happen. Eventually he'd be sent back and reconditioned. They would break him completely this time.
“I know you went into this service expecting to be a sexual partner, but that isn't what I want.”
“You think I volunteered for this?” The rage Kaleo spent a lifetime bottling, slipped free around the edges.
Shyroth sat back as if slapped. “You didn't?”
“Who the devs would?” He couldn't pull it back in. That pain inducer would come out of Shyroth's pocket for sure now.
Instead, Shyroth jumped to his feet and Kaleo braced for an old-fashioned beating. “Toys volunteer for service. Even here, there are still the poor, no matter how much we try to help. The Toys see their service as a way out of poverty.”
Kaleo's fingers dug into the soft padding of the lounge. “I never volunteered for this.”
Shyroth stalked the room, turning this way and that as if he couldn't figure out what to do next. Finally, he stopped, his fists shaking at his side. “You're telling me that you were forced into this?”
