Sweet Baby Jesus
Nov. 22nd, 2015 12:01 amOkay so the chocolate peanut butter porter with the irreverent name wasn't half bad. It's a tad bitter but it definitely has a peanut butter taste. I wouldn't make it my go-to beer but for something different....
I am STUNNED at how hard it is to find things on Google about Deadwood. The casinos have some surprisingly bland websites. I know for a fact Mount Moriah Cemetery has many celebrities buried in it but all I can find online it Wild Bill. Most don't even mention Calamity Freaking Jane. I have books and memorabilia from 20 years ago but god knows where that is. Yes this is just a short story but frankly Deadwood needs to be like a third character in this. It's disappointing. Maybe I'll try Bing tomorrow. ANd yes I'm cheating and bundling this short story word count into my nano because of the moved deadline.
I forgot to mention I had a bad and scary thing happen at the Wounded Goose last night. Remember me saying sitting too long hurts my hip? It locked up on me. The muscle spasms were so great I couldn't extend my hip so that leg was half locked into a 'seated' posture. Had to stand for a while to get it to relax.
The hip still hurts and all I did today was sit. Sigh. And I wasn't even writing much. I had SO much school stuff to finish so I have a free week next week for travel and what not.
My day started too early with a phone call from a blocked number and then I had to run to work to get my lunch bag with all my dishes in it since I didn't want it to sit there all weekend and I had forgotten it. Also I had forgotten my druzy ring, the one I just bought last month. I had taken it off in class on Wed. Forgot it promptly. Found it in the room on friday by some miracle then forgot it again in my office. Geez.
And Happy Birthday to
floranna. Hope it was a great day.
I really wish I could just sit and read all weekend as I have Shadows of Self by BRandon Sanderson and I'm loving it. I enjoyed the Mistborn trilogy but I absolutely LOVE this new series in that world with Wax and Wayne (and Marasi). It's a little less heavy and more mystery oriented and a lot more fun in many ways.

And I talk a little about finishing Blood Red Roulette here. Posted it a few places. It does get disheartening when you have the same core of 'friends' on FB (i.e. all the other authors in your publishing house and a few others) and they fall all over some people to congratulate an accomplishment like finishing a novel and others, like me, crickets are chirrupping. I know it's bad to be jealous. Sometimes you just can't help it.

Nano snippet - About halfway into the holo, Smoke found him. She jumped up on him, nearly knocking the breath right out of him. She was heavier than he expected. She licked his face then tried to curl up in his lap. Kaleo maneuvered her so that the long fangs jutting out from her upper jaws weren't right next to his balls. The same went for her horns. Finally, getting her head down to his knees, he felt safe enough until Smoke wrapped her paws around his leg, the tips of her claws kneading just like a cat. Aneurin's pet might be the death of him.
When she settled, he went back to watching his holo, then he started Setak's recommendation. He thought the idea of a haunted colony was ridiculous. What could possibly scare him after growing up in the slums and spending a year in the Toyhouse? In spite of himself, the story sucked him right in. As the heroine was hiding from the evil spirits, something touched his shoulder.
Kaleo startled, jumping. Smoke dug her claws in and he yelled again. Again? Devs, did he really just scream like a little girl? Shyroth stood over him, smiling a smile that could stun anyone. “Devs! Don't do that!”
“Sorry.” Shyroth chuckled. “It's a good holo, isn't it?”
Kaleo glared, not answering.
