Agni loathed seeing Soma in pain. The young prince had been moping ever since he had more or less thrust himself into Ciel’s company last night, refusing to take no for an answer. Agni didn’t know if Ciel was trying to be kind in rebuffing Soma or if he was simply tired of Soma’s enthusiastic personality. Agni had to admit that his prince was sometimes a bit overwhelming.

The party at Lady Russell’s house had illuminated something Agni already suspected; their people weren’t looked upon kindly by many of the Crown’s subjects. Lady Russell had many Indian servants and even though he was a servant himself, Agni had sensed the difference between himself and those servants. Soma treated him kindly. Lady Russell had not, nor had she wanted to treat Prince Soma as an equal. Soma had been depressed ever since.

“My prince, may I suggest an outing. Lord Phantomhive’s fiancée, Lizzy highly recommended it.”

Soma regarded him with sad eyes, simply nodding his head.

“She said we must see the London Zoo and all its wonders. She said it has many wondrous sites such as a bear pit and tigers, which of course might be less unusual for us. There are creatures called Tasmanian Wolves and Quaggas there as well.”

Soma’s brow pinched. “What is a Quagga?”

Agni knew he had hooked Soma, now to fish him out of his melancholy. “I surely do not know. Shall we go see, my Prince?”

Soma offered a weary smile and held out a hand. Agni helped him to his feet. “I want to see this strange Quagga creature.”

“And you shall.”

Agni felt confident Soma would be happier by the time they had finished touring the zoo. He wasn’t one to stay in a bad mood for long but Agni also knew that Soma would not soon forget how their countrymen had been treated. Maybe Lord Phantomhive and his amazing butler would have suggestions on how to change it.
