Where am I? Inside a conference hall. Ah well. It was the research presentation for the Ohio Academy of Science today and it went very well. I'm proud of all of the students.

It was a bit weird in one sense. I saw on 32 'watched for stopped traffic due to event' and got a bit worried. That meant Athens would be stuffed to the gills. I get to where I'm supposed to be parking and it's filled with helicopters, cops, firetrucks etc for Kid's fest. I drive up and say I'm with OAS and we were supposed to park here. Sure, go on back to the very back. I get nervous as I am the ONLY car in the entire stadium parking. I ask the OU cop, the event person AND the OAS reps once I get to Grover but they all say it's okay (it was).

Once we get everyone together we decide to walk to lunch because we're afraid if we move our cars we shall never park again. Funnily they sent an email out last night (after the convention technically started) to say we couldn't park in the lot the told us to. My coworkers are like 'HOW did you manage to convince them to do it.' I'm good at it.

We shortcut through Baker because if you go up all three escalators a) you could drop off your research posters & b) be at the other street level without walking up the ginormous hill. WHee.

We went to Jackie O's and I had a terrible falafel wrap (the falafel tasted good but has the consistency of a poached egg. SHudder)It was also Number fest AND International Fest (no idea why all this was at once) We said haha bet our friend NA would be at the International fest (he used to work with us and now works at OU). I had an oil of aphrodite to make up for the falafel a 10.9% stout with black walnut oil in it which just made it bitter. sigh.

On our way back to Baker hall who do we see coming up the street? NA! He joined us for the rest of the afternoon. I miss him.

The research presentations went well. There was one showing a product called Nature Zap that using short bursts of UV light to kill weeds. I totally want to do our own research on that (i.e. I want to have the school buy the thing and bring it here). One high school girl got to work with Case Western on 3-D computer modeling on the migration of gliablastoma cells which was fascinating but I will say there were more ecology ones this year and less high powered enzyme studies.

Afterwards as much as I wanted to go back to International fest I wanted to make sure my car wasn't towed and I didn't want to deal with trying to park where the fest was. Besides I was to meet my friends at Tim Horton's. Did that. Hit Krogers for more Taste of Spain stuff then got a wheels of fire Avalanche PIzza which was a deconstructed buffalo wing, gorgonzola cream sauce with buffalo wing chicken, ranch swirls, red peppers and celery pieces, very good.

And let me tell you about the dream I had. MFK (the head of our nano group who I was hanging out with tonight) was introducing this friend of hers to all of us and she was SO proud and thrilled by this woman's achievements and the woman was sharing it with us.However, it was done in the old paper zine cut and paste fashion and I was like 'why is MFK so impressed? This went out of fashion 20 years ago!'

And then the party changed and I was a huge pool blast with a swim up bar that my friend Flippy was hosting. I so wanted a cocktail but I couldn't think of what I wanted. I kept thinking I'm so used to beer now I can't think of anything upscale for this party. Also Flippy's sister had hired a woman to do our nails/toenails and this girl kept trying to do mine while I was trying to get my drink. She did it in a pale gold sparkly and had it all over my skin. My mom was there and was upset that I had paid for such a shitty manicure.

Ah brain you crazy thing.
