Jana had a lot to say and you can catch up on it here.

And Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] davesmusictank

But the biggest, happiest news is I've sent in Blood Red Roulette! Cross your fingers for me. I really have been waiting a long time for this novel to be right and ready. I'm afraid they won't want it because it's so long and because Soldiers tanked. Hell I couldn't sell anything 40% off (other than one or two of you who helped out. Thanks!)

I'm still angry they won't move Soldiers. Still concerned that they haven't fucking told me if they're sending me the books I need for the con.

I'm wondering really who to talk to with this writerly ways. It's not really appropriate for Queer SF's author questions though they do talk about things not necessarily related to spec fic. The inner workings group has been turned into more the business end of writing.

Anyhow can we talk a little bit about bisexuality. Not so much about bi-erasure which I've talked about before but rather how it's shown when a character first realizes they're bi. I have bi friends, more than a few but I don't particularly feel comfortable just asking 'hey how did you learn you were bi?' But I could also be wrong in assuming they've known all along they've been attracted to both sexes.

I guess this is on my mind a lot lately. Often we see a hetero character who is kissed by someone of the same sex and they think 'hey that's not so bad' and the next thing you know they're dating the person. Somehow that doesn't seem all that natural to me and yet I wrote it myself in a barely started piece. I got to thinking about Willow and Tara. There wasn't much hint that Willow would be bi other than Joss saying in an interview he knew one of them would be gay (most of us assumed Xander). I started thinking, did I miss something? Other than an off the cuff comment about vamp!Willow being 'kinda gay' I can't think of anything (and of course that's how he wrote Angel/Spike as a one liner confirming it and cheapening the whole thing).

I just read it again recently in two different books. One character I knew was gay. I'm not sure their friends knew they were gay and boom, they kiss and it's like HEEEEEY, nice! Boom they're a couple.

Whether or not I get any answers to this I think I'll at least foreshadow Gideon's attraction to both sexes (he collects action figures, will be easy to slip in how cute Thor is...). I don't think I like the idea of no clue someone's bi until they get Prince/Princess charming's first kiss.

I've never had to deal with this before because all my bi characters have been adult and known they were bi....

In non writing news I'm really struggling with depression and anxiety right now. It doesn't help I've had no one to talk to for the last week or more. Oh well L. did want to go out last night but much like Sheldon, I'm expected to listen to her issues but not vice versa.

I did manage to edit some of Splinters of Silver and Cold Iron but the document said I hadn't touched this for THREE years. That can't be right. I know I did. I fear it was all on a flash drive but that makes no sense. I don't usually work that way. SIGH.

I wrote 4,300 words on Behind Blue Eyes so there's that.

Yearly word count, this is pretty damn sad.:
