Story update and vid rec

Well, I finally got chapter nine of Tearing the Veil done (and yes I'm nearly done with this story, yay!). For those following along, this story is several years in the future set in Madison Wisconsin. Connor's wife is murdered and their infant son kidnapped. Angel, Buffy and company are trying to help him get his child back. Finally they have a clue. Tearing the Veil

And while I don't usually rec videos much this one is very good. It's a look at Angel and Connor (with Darla as well) and even if you're not a Connor fan this is a very interesting video and worth the download time for those on dial up like me. It's done in black and white with bursts of color that are fleeting and look like someone had hand colored a negative. It's an intriguing effect and the black and white look at familiar scenes make them look very new. The song however is immensely annoying but the final stanza is very much an Angel thought towards his son. The song is synched very well with the vid and the fast cuts and split screens are also well done. Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums. (and as always, follow the rules for downloads, right click and save target, play nice)

and awww, they canceled Joan of Arcadia. I'm still waiting on Joan on tape...

I'll definitely get the first season on DVD. It was completely and utterly ace. But S2? Meh... It was all over the place, especially with my absolutely favourite character. But I think they would have turned it around with S3.

I've collected as many Connor-related vids as I can. But they're always so DEPRESSING (well, such is life as a Connor fan).

I have too, re: the Connor vids but here, I can't download them all, like the ones on Frodis.net. I HAVE quicktime but they just won't play. And yeah, well depressing is the life of Connor...

I would like to get the first year of JoA but there are other things I'd like to get first. WHo was your favorite character? I liked Adam and Grace

Aw, that's too bad. I really like my vids (well, of course I do, 'cause they're MINE). I need to get a PC (*shudder*) so I can put them into WMV format.

Yeah, I know what that's like. There's always something to get. Once, I went to Walmart to buy Angel S4 and they also had Highlander S5 AND Sliders S1&2... I swear, it was like "Sophie's Choice". I ended up gettign Angel S4, since that's what I went there for (and... Dude, CONNOR). But I spent the next couple of days scraping up cash so I could afford the other two sets.

My favourite character is Adam. What a shock. I like the cute guy with a traumatic past. I love Grace as well, but Adam just squeaked her out of #1.

oh those are your videos? See how much I'm paying attention (twit). I managed to download them (which is a miracle given my crappy dial up) but they just won't play so I downloaded a newer version of Quicktime, STILL won't play. Sobbed loaded. They're still on my hard drive... I'm not sure what the hell the problem is. Then again it could be my PC. I downloaded the phone log stuff for LJ from LJ and it still wn't let me listen to phone entries...

I still only have Angel S1 because I'm that poor... whine. Maybe for my birthday...

And yeah Adam is my favorite then Grace. not that I don't like Joan because I do but...

I actually work DVDs into my budget, because I'm so damn obsessive. I'm so obsessive, I walked about a mile in freezing rain to get to the store to get Angel S5.

Joan is fine, but she's not Adam or Grace.

hmm, that's probably what I'm missing. I'll give that a try That might have been why I gave up. I didn't want to download loads of crap onto my hard drive. (If I were back in FL with my cable modem I could give a damn but it takes a min. of 2 hours to download one vid here).

but hey this thing says it'll download in 2 minutes. I'm probably doing something wrong!

well I got it working! Yay me. I downloaded your new one, "Don't Forget Me" (songs from my college days always gets bonus points) and the bloody thing STILL wouldn't play because for some reasons Quicktime was on the hard drive but not actually installed (It used to be so...) anyhow, long story short, got quicktime installed and that code thingie you sent and I got to see that one and "My Father's Eyes" and I enjoyed them very much.

Glad you like them. I've got like a HUNDRED more Connor (and Connor-Angel and Connor-Angel-Darla) videos in my head. For the longest time, I didn't do them because it was so hard for me to get the footage, because I didn't know how to rip it from DVD (as you can probably see, there is a MASSIVE difference in quality between "My Father's Eyes" and "Don't You Forget About Me" ). But now that I've figured out how to do that, it's just a matter of finding the time to actually sit down and make the videos. They take a while and, well, TNP really likes to suck up my free time. Not that I mind, I love TNP, but holy Moses it can quickly become my only fandom activity.

yeah I can imagine that it takes the time to find the footage and edit it and synch it etc. I've thought about it (like oh, say Graduation Day to Alice Cooper's School's Out) but I don't a) know how b) wouldn't have time even if I did.

And yes I know how a series can suddenly take you over. Me, I try to balance fanfic with original fic and sometimes the balance tips.

It really does. It's not the synching so much that takes the time. It's the finding the footage, ESPECIALLY if you're ripping from DVD. Then there's a lot of waiting, because you have to convert it. But usually I can scribble some stuff in my notebook while I wait.

Ugh. I've pretty much given up on my original stuff. I can't seem to come up with a half-decent idea these days. Doing it pro and writing crappy non-fiction and press releases stomped all of my original fic out of my head. I'm just lucky I was able to hold onto my fanfic muse.

yeah technical type writing WILL kill your muse Lord knows my thesis nearly wiped me out last year (hence the plethora of WIPS) but i'm serious about trying to get published so I'm back at it.

My Joe job requires I write about camera filters and tripods ad naseum. It is definitely enough to kill ANY muse.

Vidding is definitely patience. Especially for the EXTREMELY technical ones. That "Counting Sheep" video? I can almost guarantee Milly probably tore her hair out in frustration to get it that precise. If you have trouble making icons because of patience, vidding is definitely not the discipline you should try taking up.

I have no patience. None. It's a violent sort of no patience. I'd hurt something if I tried to vid and I'm sure that MIlly did. It was one of the reasons I wanted to share that one because I can appreciate the art that went into making it
