Ficathon reminder and other boring crap
Sep. 24th, 2004 05:59 pmFor those of you participating in the WIP ficathon challenge. Youv'e got a week. Yeah I know scary. I've NOT got mine done either. Worse, in the two years since I've looked at it, I've come to the conclusion of ewww, this needs HELP! Phew.
Well there must have been a herd of hungry mice in this house because that box of decon disappeared overnight. Which is disturbing in you know i won't FIND the dead mice until they start stinking...
Still trying to get to FL. You know with all the damn hurricanes it should be dead cheap to get there but no. And of course the big boss is gone this week so I can't get leave approved.
We (my boss and the two teaching assistants) got together today to work on all sorts of stuff...mostly at the bar over beer at noon. I've learned something. I'm not half as hard on my class as these student assistants would be. Ouch. They're tough. They offered (stunning me since it's a shitload of work) to actually go thru those stupid quizbowl questions and weed out the duplicates and bad ones so that there's less work for the students. They've also given me ideas on how to shake up class...ie. let's just go to lab during any of the three hours that I have them for because when I leave it for the last hour, half my class books out on me.
The heater died again. If you think I'm crying (and I am. It was 80 yesterday and 50 today and my arthritis can't handle taht) imagine how much the guy who owns this place is pissed.
Got Keith Urban's new CD. It sold out of Wal-Mart in the first day but two days later there were more. I generally don't buy an album without hearing more than one song because lately you get two songs worth it and the rest stink. I like Keith. He's a great ball of energy on stage, nice voice and he's dead sexy (no lie, thought mom, since we were second row center sitting next to Brooks and Dunn's wives, was going snag and shag Keith). Got the album and read the lyrics thinking outside of She's Gotta Be (which is a perfect shipper song) there's not many that really grabbed me. Listened to thinking hmm, not impressed but then again I didn't hate it. Sometimes I need to listen to it a few times before I get excited. Second listen thru was more stimulating. The radio said Keith is 37. My age...he looks like he's in his 20's. I thought he was even younger (maybe the radio was wrong). Anyhow I'm grateful for Australia for sending him our way. Oh and he had an interesting quote on the back of his cd booklet, thinking it must be his since it's not attributed to anyone, "Life is a balance of holding on and letting go." I'm going to go meditate on that. (okay really I'm going to drink more alcohol and chant it's not cold in here)
