writing and reading
Dec. 1st, 2007 04:12 pmyes I'm still on that topic. let's see if you want to see what little i've been reading lately head here book review
came across a series of books by Douglas Preston and Lincoln CHild and unlike most mysteries where you can come in just about anywhere with little change in the characters (except usually martial status) the Pendergast mysteries really can't be read out of order and as it so happened I had the 5th book in the series in my hand (and thanks to the letter from the authors explaining this being put in the back I wouldn't have known if I didn't flip to the end to see how many pages i had to read...no wonder it was hard to get into). For those who might be interested this is the order
Relic
Reliquary
Cabinet of curiosities
Still life with crows
Brimstone
Dance of death
Book of the dead (pg 96)-where i left off...
my library also had the Dexter books and supposedly had all three. Well 1 & 2 were missing. I looked. Two librarians looked. They're MIA. One librarian who knows me asked, why am I always such a problem child (things mysteriously appear under my name that I haven't taken out, books I have brought back aren't removed, i get called with book holds only to get there and they're NOT there...)
some pimps for writing communities
earworm100 is a cool new community where lyrics serve as your prompts (no, not songfic), it's any fandom so go have a look. And
picfor1000 will be opening up soon, also multi-fandom. You get a picture and you have to write EXACTLY 1000 word story for it. Fun and tricky.
And thanks to
kylie1403 for the congratulatory ribbon for my nano win.
And lastly for the curious here's a meme from
ishte that queries my characters. For the unintiated, Tarran, Merryn and Adao are all characters from Red Skies, a universe I share with
evil_little_dog. Makai is from a fantasy universe (also shared with ELD) and his novel (my first nano win) is called Until the Ice Breaks. Yukio is from my third nano win in an urban fantasy set somewhere in PA, called Melt Into the Wind and lastly Tazia is from my second nano win, another urban fantasy set in Madison WI called Splinters of Silver and COld Iron (any of these can be emailed to the curious but I do ask that you a) not post parts b)give me honest reviews about what you did and didn't like)
