came across a series of books by Douglas Preston and Lincoln CHild and unlike most mysteries where you can come in just about anywhere with little change in the characters (except usually martial status) the Pendergast mysteries really can't be read out of order and as it so happened I had the 5th book in the series in my hand (and thanks to the letter from the authors explaining this being put in the back I wouldn't have known if I didn't flip to the end to see how many pages i had to read...no wonder it was hard to get into). For those who might be interested this is the order

Makai is from a fantasy universe (also shared with ELD) and his novel (my first nano win) is called Until the Ice Breaks. Yukio is from my third nano win in an urban fantasy set somewhere in PA, called Melt Into the Wind and lastly Tazia is from my second nano win, another urban fantasy set in Madison WI called Splinters of Silver and COld Iron (any of these can be emailed to the curious but I do ask that you a) not post parts b)give me honest reviews about what you did and didn't like)

Do you have any bad habits?
Adao – I’m belligerent and crabby. I pick fights
Tarran – I’m cursed and it forces me to try and have sex with everyone (bats eyes at interviewer) and I let them beat me up if they want. Oh and sex makes me lose my soul and I just sort of lie there like I’m dead
Merryn – Um….not really. Okay I want everyone to be happy and I try to make them play nice and then they get mad.
Makai – I have no self confidence and I deride myself in public. Is being a pessimist a bad habit? I sneak my Zerevan’s alcohol.
Yukio – HmmmI have Makai’s bad habits. I’m sort of dead now so really bad habits won’t hurt me. I used to do a little pot when I was living.
Tazia – I’m a cop’s daughter, not to mention Daddy’s the alpha werewolf of our pack. He’s not going to tolerate much in the way of bad habits. My worse one is sometimes I do what I want even when I’m told not to.

Adao – Are you looking to be smacked? NO! Not any more (thank you Merryn)
Tarran – *after a round of bitter laughter* Did you hear about my curse? Mom gave me to her friends to ‘play’ with when I was about six or seven. I lost my virginity before I knew what it was.

Tazia – I decided I’m not ready for that yet. I know hooking up is a game in high school but that’s the kind of smell that lingers on the skin and I have werewolf parents.

Tarran – I was engaged to be married but she betrayed me and tried to kill me. The gods gave me to Kisyl and Domi (and they’ll never forgive the gods for that). I would like to have Hanneke and Luyo as mates too but one things she’s too poor and the other thinks he’s too old. And well I’ll sleep with anyone, any time any where really
Merryn – I’m very happy with Adao…even if he is a pill sometimes
Makai – I’d like to be dating Kylle but she thought I was sleeping with Echyon. Sigh.

Tarran – I never thought I could hate anyone. I was wrong. After I finally stopped living in denial, I’ve learned I hate my mother and I hate Trass. How could she let those pedophiles do those things to me? How could SHE sleep with me too? I’m never going to be right in the head. I’m curse. I’m crazy and it’s all her fault

Adao - Field of Innocence by Evanescence. Though I’m not sure I was ever happy even as a kid to be honest.
Tarran – I think Unwell by Matchbox Twenty captures me pretty well to be honest then again I can really relate to Toby Keith’s I love this bar
But the band isn’t crappy. I know. I play in it.
Merryn – It’s hard to sum yourself up in a song but Terri Clark’s Emotional Girl comes close
Makai – I know COM is mocking me but she says if I were here on Earth instead of where I live Brad Paisley’s Online would fit me. Excuse me while I go not tell her how the novel ends. That’ll teach her to mock me.

Adao – Only Tarran knows my artistic side, well until recently. I think I’m pretty good

Adao – Oh, the gods can suck me. That’s right, I said it. This magic of mine, this so called gift, has ruined my life and as if that’s not enough if I get sacrificed the evil goddess gets to escape and if I live the gods want something else of me but I don’t know what.
Tarran – My patroness is the best, most caring goddess/god ever, yes I do mean both. Ven is both sexes. She’s held me in her arms and kissed me. I love her.
Merryn – I’ve always had a good relationship with all the gods and goddess especially, Ven, my patroness but lately I’ve wondered why they put such a hard road before Adao, Tarran and Domi
Makai – I have respect for them. I think our religion as an organization is messed up though.
Yukio – Do you really want to start this with ME? I have no idea what to think about the Creator and technically I work for him/her/it. How unfair is it that if you die before your time, before you’re an adult, you get put to work as a grim reaper, escorting the dead and slaying the demons that would prey on humanity? Yeah, I have issues.
Tazia – I wouldn’t call myself overly religious and lately organized religion has embarrassed me with their intolerance but I do believe in God.

Adao – that’s right, go right for the mark of my magic and the thing that makes people scurry from me in fear. Snow white, my hair is snow white (I’ve been told I have Near from Death Note’s hair and I’ve read this manga over someone’s shoulder and let me just say I am in no way as WEIRD as that guy. Just so we’re clear)
Tarran – Beautiful, that’s what color it is. It’s walnut brown with streaks and swirls of gold. It’s my god mark.
Merryn – sort of generic brown really.
Makai – I have the worst hair. It’s light brown

Yukio – once again…dead. BUT the powers that be do allow me to a) sleep with my fellow psychopomps b) take form and go out among the living so when the mood strikes, I go for the ladies.
