only this one is Religion thru the eyes of Hollywood.
The Bad - watched last week's The Mentalist today. I still don't get the appeal really but it's usually so-so and I was bored. Anyhow, they have a 'witch' invovled. You know if Wicca was any other religion the ACLU would be so far up these writers/producers' asses you'd need a flashlight to find them.
It's still very obviously okay to malign religion so long as it's not Christianity. Naturally there's a murder set up like black magic but rather than the wiccan priest pointing out that this isn't actually Wicca, she goes on and on about the killing spells she used now and in the past (this was the only one that worked), has several loud 'spellcasting' that prove that the writers haven't even so much as google what Wicca is let alone read a book. It was painful to see but such a train wreck I had to watch it to the end. It never got any better.Naturally the priestess had a history of mental illness (which then somehow made wicca better to the cops investigating her)
Just wow.
The Good - Numb3rs while the episodes themslves are getting weaker and weaker they're doing something this year that I actually like and respect. Don is turning back to his religion and we're getting to see the Jewish belief system treated with respect. Usually on cop shows we see it at best as a means to a dramatic hate crime (have to have one a year during sweeps after all). You usually don't see the inner workings of Faith unless its Christianity on most dramas. Even when Marrow was playing in Northen Exposure his character didn't get to do much with his faith. I applaud this and am assuming (given that the three main actors are Jewish) is a fairly good representation.
and why do I love my flist so much? I know not everyone has as reserved view on today's events and I appreciate your intelligent and kindly responses to my post, proof that people can disagree a bit without screaming.
ETA - I bought roses for myself on SUnday (the bargin ones with a coupon too). Instead of brightening my home they've made me sad. I love roses you see, love to grow them. Looking at them there in the living room is reminded me that in all likelihood I'll never have a nice big house where i can grow them
And OH. Get this. In an effort to PROVE we're flat broke my college wants me to walk to HR and pick up my W2 but only at certain times...i teach during ALL of them
