and pleased. Lots of people flocked to my book/dvd post. Wonders if we're all snowed in/bored. hee.

It rained here. Buckets of rain so much so it was running over the tops of my shoes. Still, it's better than ice.

I broke a promise to myself and did get a book out of the library (more on that tomorrow in the writer post) but I have to wonder, has the outsider hero/heroine gotten completely overdone at this point, at least in urban fantasy? Yes I'm going to assume that the publishers think that people reading this genre ARE outsides so this will appeal (and there is probably some truth about this). However, really, I'm actually TIRED of the point of view character being the friendless outsider. We always get the inevitable meet character X, 'my only friend.'

It's getting as predictable as the tides. Not that I'm dying for more stories about the cool popular kids. How about your average kid? (which my female heroine in my YA werewolf story is).

The new book (which is shaping up to go back to the library when I give up at my 50 page trial marker) Children of the Lost Moon starts out with a main character, a lone girl, Savannah, who is on the fencing team and practically Olympic quality. Sure enough chapter two we meet Taylor, 'her only friend.' Really? Not one friend on the fencing team? Seriously? I was hardly Ms. popular in high school but even i had more than ONE friend, mostly kids from the theatre/science club/band, you know kids I shared something with. I just have trouble with someone proficient enough to be on a team having zero friends among them.

I think this is what i liked best about Buffy. She WAS the popular kid and we watched her deal with slowly but surely losing that popularity. It was certainly more interesting to me than friendless Willow (who at least had Xander) being the lead since I've seen it so. many. times. in this genre.

thoughts? Agree? Disagree? curious minds are curious.

Also the cats stole my lighter yesterday and returned it this morning. Also, last night as I was turning out the lights Kanda and Soul reverted to Lion Pride mode and simultaneously bite both my ankles in an attempt to kill and eat me I assume. I keep telling them I WILL fall on them and they WILL regret it.

Something George Takei is spearheading check it out. Hope it works. It's a facebook link. Basically he's trying to get valentine's for a woman who used to be in the internment camps here in the USA and is now a volunteer at the museums keeping this bit of info from being whitewashed.
